Monday Moaning

Well, I had to start this week with a good pic...As College Football season nears, my Notre Dame Fighting Irish seem to have a problem...

This past week news broke that Notre Dame had an internal investigation looking into allegations Academic Misconduct...When 4 players were noticeably absent at practice, it was easy to figure at least some of who was involved...LB/DE Ishaq Williams, CB  Keivarae Russell, WR Davaris Daniels, and LB Kendall Moore...Daniels had just come off of suspension for his GPA dropping...Moore, a 5th year senior has slipped on the depth chart during Spring and Summer...Russell is the top CB on the depth chart...And Williams, while not officially being a bust, has not lived up to expectations, and the Irish were hoping to see him reach his full potential this season...

The players have not been dismissed from the team or University...But they are being withheld from practice and games until the investigation complete...And while the Notre Dame haters are licking their chops, dying to blast us Irish fans who hang our hats on the academic standards, this is the same School that threw their starting QB out shortly before the start of last season for academic violations...

It is reported that a faculty member brought the allegations to the University, feeling that work turned in by these players (and possibly other students) was not their own...There is also speculation, but no confirmation that academic advisors could be involved...What makes me happy is the University took it seriously right away...They didn't try and hush it up, or sweep it under the rug, in the name of football...And the Athletic department, and head coach Brian Kelly put up no fight over...It's also reported that none of the coaching staff was aware of any of this until it was brought to their attention...(so far)...They are all in with finding out what happened and who the problem people are...

I really like what Brian Kelly had to say in his press conference Saturday...

Another sign of how serious Notre Dame is taking this...They brought in Maurice Clarett to speak with the staff, and players Sunday...

Shit, if there's a guy that knows about the pitfalls college athletes can fall into, it's him...Seriously, if you haven't seen the ESPN 30 for 30 about him and Jim Tressel, you have to see it...You'll gain a lot of respect for Clarett, and you'll lose even more for Tressel...What a fake, piece of shit that guy is!

I guess, I don't really have much to say about this yet...Mainly because we know very little...I just know that I'm happy with how Notre Dame is handling it so far...As more information comes out, I may change my mind...I mean these are the guys that thought Manti Te'o had a girlfriend they never saw, then gave him a football to bury with her when she died, you know, whenever he got back to Hawaii to bury her pretend body!

That's it for now...Stay tuned...

Have a week...

Are You Drinking What Te'o is Spilling?

                                                    'You're fucking kidding me right?'

Seriously, Katie Couric what thinking those very words repeatedly as she interviewed the dope known as Manti Te'o...

I know people are sick of this topic...Shit, I'm tired of it too...But I've spent my life as a loyal Notre Dame fan...I was a huge Te'o supporter...Then this crazy story broke...If I'm going to write about the good things, and I'm going to pound on other people I feel are assholes, I have to do the same in this case, or I'm just being a tool...

The last week and change I've been tough on Te'o, and I felt he was in on this whole hoax thing...I couldn't believe that some one could get duped as bad as he says he did...Well during his interview that aired Thursday, he admitted to lying about meeting his fake girlfriend...He lied be cause he was embarrassed...He also admitted to continuing to talk about the story of his dead, fake girlfriend after he realized he was played for a fool...He felt the story of him battling through the heartache and pain of losing the love of his life "was an inspiration to many people", and he felt he was doing "good" by continuing with that...

Sure, it had nothing to do with all the media attention...The media attention that helped push a linebacker to finishing second for the Heisman...Let's be honest, if this whole, dead girlfriend just 6 hours after his grandmother died story didn't happen, he wouldn't have been in New York for the Heisman ceremonies...He still would have had a great season, but the media wouldn't have latched on to him and his story, and how the whole Notre Dame community rallied around him...

There were many things that bothered me about watching this interview...1. I watched it...2. I watched it a second time, just to try and wrap my head around it...3.There are just too many things that don't make sense, to how he couldn't have figured out he was being pranked...4. Notre Dame and loyal fans have always prided ourselves on the high academic standards, including those for athletes....So how is this kid so fucking stupid!?!  If all of this was a hoax pulled on him, he's an idiot...Katie at multiple times just looked at Te'o in shock...And when they got to the part where his fake girlfriend woke up from her comma, on the phone with him, and then shortly after found out she had leukemia, Couric said, "You have to be the most naive person alive, or this is the most horrible story ever written."

She asked if this was all a plot to cover up him being gay...Which of course he responded intensely, proclaiming that there was no way he was gay...I thought he was about to say I get a different woman every night, I'll take you now.'  But if he's such a man, why is he in love with a girl he's never seen, touched, or smelled, let alone finger-banged, dry-humped, or even penetrated...I'm not saying he's gay, but there is still a missing piece to this puzzle...Opie, from Opie and Anthony has offered $25000 to the first woman/girl who can prove she had sex with manti Te'o...That's how not convincing he was!

They played voice mails, that were supposedly a guy pretending to be a his girlfriend...Everyone was like, "that sounds like a girl."  No it sounded like tranny doing his best girl voice...

Even if he wasn't directly involved in this hoax...In his own way, he played a role...he played along...He embellished the story of his love affair...He used it to his advantage to get more media attention...Not that a good Notre Dame football player really needs to push that hard for media attention...His father said Manti "isn't a liar, he's just a kid."  Huh, that's odd, because in the interview, he admitted to lying to his father...And at 21 you're not a kid...Sorry, you're fucking adult...You can drink a beer, and you've been eligible to go to war for a few years at that point...Stop coddling your kid...And Manti, grow the fuck up, and screw a real woman...

I hate to say it...But I don't like anything about Te'o anymore...He seems shady, or really fucking dumb...I can do without both...I don't believe him....I'm not drinking what he's spilling...

But believe me people..There is still something more, and twisted about this whole idiotic story to come out...

Monday Moaning

There's been a lot of talk and little debate about control, and the second amendment...Too many shootings, and I'm not just talking about the mass shootings that get all the media coverage...I think we really need to have some honest talk about guns...But not in this post...I'm just pimping one hell   of a calendar...The Hot Shots 2013 calendar...

I'm not a gun nut...But I don't mind these gals making these weapons look a little sexier...

Now, lets get into sports...As I had predicted in our pal IHM's NFL pre-season post, the "Super Bowl" will be the 49ers vs. the Ravens...Yes, I love to pat myself on the back when I'm right...Although, I didn't actually enjoy seeing the Patriots get worked by the Ravens...But I'll be okay...

That said, I'm not looking forward to the non-stop Harbaugh coverage we're going to get...And even worse will be the Ray Lewis nut-swinging...And could some one in the mainstream-media please call out Ray when he's preaching about God's Will...Was it also God's Will for Ray to father 6 children with 4 different women...I guess the rest of us have been going to the wrong church...Ray must go to the Church of the Holy Hood-Rats!

As for the folks in Boston, I'm not sure if they'll be okay...I was texting with my brother-in-law during the game...He was getting pretty pissed...I love those moments when people in Boston say "Brady sucks!"  The guy is one of the best, all-time...He's not the only Bostonian to lose it like this...I've known of other Boston fans like that...I was talking to Sully, a Boston native, and he's noticed this too....

The problem is, after so many years of sucking...Boston has gotten spoiled...The Patriots have been to five "Super Bowls" in the last 12 years...They won 3...My wife, a Boston native, and I have been married for 12 years...So I have become more in tune to Boston sports...In that 12 years, the Patriots have won 3 titles...The Red Sox 2...The Celtics and Bruins each 1...7 pro sports championships in 12 years...5 trips to the "Super Bowl"....You people in New England need to fucking relax...

The last time the Browns won a Championship was before there was a "Super Bowl"...The Indians haven't won a title since 1948...The Cavs haven't won shit, ever!  And we lost multiple pro hockey teams...Do you know how many idiotic people in Cleveland would give their first born for a Browns "Super Bowl" win...Shit...Some would give a nut just to make the playoffs...

Alright Bostonians...Take a breath...Relax...Have a Sam Adams...Checkout the latest Smokeshow on Barstool...It will be okay...We'll all be watching the Patriots in the playoffs again next year...

-Now last week I gave lance Armstrong the beating I felt he deserved...And that was before I saw some of his bullshit with Oprah...Believe me, he didn't win anyone over with that...He actually made himself look worse...He doesn't need anymore beating from me...He's worthless...But I found this, and thought it was great...

That's just a great way of sticking it too the douchebag!

I also gave Notre Dame LB, Manti Te'o a beating...I'm standing by what I wrote...Sitting in a room with his lawyer, feeding Jeremy Schaap a story, off camera, doesn't make him look any bit innocent to me...Even if he was fooled, he continued to do interviews where he referenced his dead, fake, girlfriend...The kid is a scumbag...And he's going to pull a softy move just like Armstrong...My old friend from grade school who is a producer for Katie Couric, posted on facebook that Te'o will be on her show Thursday....These fucking guys...Unreal!  I hope she asks him what magazines he reads...She's used that before to trip some one up!

I do have some good news people...Very good news...Normally we think it's those Ivy League Schools, or MIT, or Stanford, that do the really important studies...Well, it's time to look outside the box people...Star looking at the studies they're doing at NC State...

Just so you know ladies...If you're not getting you one to two loads of semen a week, the Beeze is here for ya!

Lastly, the NHL is back after it's idiotic labor dispute...I'm not real pumped for it yet...I didn't see any this weekend...That's a whole other story...But I saw this, and got a little tingle...

Have a week...

We All Got Catfished

Yesterday DEADSPIN broke the shocking, and odd story, that the dead girl friend of Notre Dame star linebacker, Manti Te'o, wasn't real...She never died, because she never existed...The story is crazy...I read the Deadspin piece 3 times...Why?  Because it is a serious article, with serious allegations, and lots, facts and details...I watched the ND press conference last night...I've read everything I could find on this...It makes me want to puke...

For all the trash people sling at Deadspin, when they do a story like this, they get it right...Unlike Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and NBC, who all did stories on Te'o...They all sung his praises, and all talked about his relationship with this non-existent, dead girlfriend...None, did any investigating apparently...None did any real journalism...None, except the guys at Deadspin...This may be just me, but there are some people at ESPN, NBC, and Sports Illustrated, that need to be fired...

The story of Te'o losing his grandmother, and girlfriend, within 6 hours of each other grabbed people...Then he went out and played a stellar game against Michigan State...The next week against Michigan, he played even better, instead of attending his dead, non-existing, girlfriend's funeral...The Notre Dame student body, alumni, and fans across the country embraced Te'o completely...Hell, much of the college football viewing public found themselves captivated, and rooting for him...He had an great season, and fighting through the painful losses of loved ones was the driving force...

Then in the BCS Championship game, he played like a pile of shit...Maybe he had something on his mind? Notre Dame has since said he came to them just after Christmas, saying that he had been played, Catfished, whatever term you want to use...He found out December 6th...He told them after Christmas...They didn't say anything until the Deadspin story broke...Why such delay?

As much as I want to believe that Te'o got catfished...I can't...Read the DEADSPIN article...Closely...There are too many details to honestly believe that Te'o had nothing to do with this hoax...And if he really got Catfished...Fuck him...Because then he's just a really fucking stupid, idiot...Which would help my theory that Mormons aren't quite right in the head...

I knew I was going to have to write about  this...I was hoping I wouldn't have to rip Te'o...But I just can't buy his side of the story...Maybe I've become to cynical...Maybe I've just excepted that we should just assume the worst case scenario first...But really, what has the world given us lately to help us hold onto hope, and not think the worst?  Fucking, NOTHING!

As of now, I'm calling Manti Te'o fucking liar...An asshole...Clearly a little off in the head...He's fucked up...And he's lost a number of fans...If I'm right...If he is an asshole who was part of carfishing the public, I hope he blows out both of his knees at the NFL combine...I hope he feels some real loss in his life, not just pretend loss...Fuck Manti Te'o!

The Beeze's College Football Wrap Up

And the winner is............

Johnny Manziel from Texas A&M....Kid has a decent Heisman pose, ain't that right Alabama?

Manziel, made history Saturday night, as he was the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy....Now it won't come as a shock that I was rooting for Notre Dame's Manti Te'o...But it wasn't just because he plays at Notre Dame...It's because I'd really love to see defense start getting some credit these days...Te'o lead a defense that only allowed 10 TD's this season...But it's always been clear, no matter what kind of defensive numbers get put up, the Heisman is all about offense...

And that said, Manziel definitely put up some big offensive numbers...43 total TD's...19 rushing, and 24 passing...Rushing for 1,181, and passing for 3,419 yards...And while I wanted to see Te'o buck the system for all defensive players...It was good to see a Freshman buck the system...There had been so much talk against Manziel, just because he's a freshman...If he earns it, who cares...This isn't an award based a players career...It's  for each season...

One thing was clear about each of the three finalists...If it isn't for them, their teams aren't sitting where they are...ND doesn't go undefeated without Te'o...Kansas State doesn't lose just 1 game, and wins the Big-12 without Collin Klein...And Texas A&M doesn't walk into the SEC and finish with a 10-2 record, including going to Alabama and rolling the Tide, without Manziel...All 3 deserved the trip to New York...I really wouldn't have been upset about any of these guys winning...And it was great to see a few guys in New York, that no one was expecting to see there....(Well, except for me picking Klein as my dark horse this pre-season)

Te'o did win the Maxwell Award, the Bednarik Award, and the Walter Camp Foundation Player of the Year Award...

-Saturday we also had the Army/Navy game...Pride, and tradition in all of it's glory...Two teams full of young men, who won't be moving on to the NFL...Instead, they'll be moving on to serve our country...Every year my Dad bets Army, since that's the branch he served in...It's the only bet he'll ever make with his heart...And he was hoping to see Army turn things around...Army was looking to break a streak of 10 loses in a row, and were lead by Senior QB, Trent Steelman....

After 3 quarters Army was ahead 13-10...But young Navy QB, Keenan Reynolds drove his team down field late, and scored the go ahead TD...There was under 5 minutes left...Steelman started his team on a 70 yard drive...With time winding down, at the Navy 14 yard line, a hand-off to fullback Larry Dixon, some how, somewhere, went wrong...Dixon fumbled it...Navy recovered it...11 Navy wins in a row...And Steelman took it hard...He was inconsolable after the game...

Honestly, it was hard to watch how broken up this young man was...Even the announcers seemed uncomfortable...

But it was great to see Army in the game...So many in the past few years have been one sided...

-The Cincinnati Bearcats have a new head coach...Tommy Tuberville has left Texas Tech to become the new man in Cincy...Tuberville leaves the Big-12 to go to the Big East?  Or where ever Cincy ends up, because the Big East is just about dead...This should be good for Cincy, since it's been a jumping off point for a number of coaches...Now they have an established guy, who should stick around awhile...This of course was made possible, when Tennessee hired Cincinnati coach Butch Jones...

-The Mount Union Purple Raiders (14-0) are headed to their 8th straight D-3 Championship game...Looking to win their 11th National Championship, they'll face St. Thomas (Minn) Friday, in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl...Seriously people, this is one of the finest football programs in the country, year in and year out...Support the small divisions that do it right, with a playoff...Watch this game!

That's it...See ya Monday...

The Beeze's College Football Wrap Up

Guess who's gonna be #1......

That's right Rick Reilly, you fucking asshole!  You stupid fucking cocksucker! What was that you said about Notre Dame being irrelevant?  You stupid fuck-stain...11-0...About to be ranked #1...And getting ready to take on a scuffling #18 USC team, lead by one of the most grossly overrated coaches ever....Lane Kiffin with a team full of talent...taking their 4th loss of the season Saturday, getting worked 38-28 by #17 UCLA...

And how did this happen for #3 Notre Dame...Well Saturday they did what they needed to do...They blasted Wake Forest in South Bend, on Senior Day, 38-0...And Brian Kelly seemed to like opening up the playbook a bit more against the Demon Deacons...

But then Saturday night the other pieces started falling into place...#1 Kansas State went to Baylor, and looked like they had their heads up their asses...Rare, and stupid penalties...Sloppy play...And Baylor's defense did something unusual...They showed up and played tough D...Collin Klein and company struggled all night and his 3 INT's and this loss, most likely killed his chance at the Heisman...And if you guys have paid attention to my college football posts this season, you know I've been all in with K-State and Klein...So while Baylor laid their 52-24 beating on the Wildcats, was great for my Irish, I was slightly bummed...

But wait...It got better...All night, up in #2 Oregon, #13 Stanford's defense was holding the Ducks offense in check...Late in the game, Oregon is up 14-7...But the Cardinal D kept the team in it...And the offense drove down field and tied the game at 14 with just over a minute and a half left...The game went to OT...Stanford held the Ducks to a field goal attempt...Missed!   After a few plays, Stanford kicker Jordan Williamson punched a 37 yard field goal through the uprights....Game over! Bye bye Ducks!

My only problem with the events of Saturday, is now this will allow the arrogant SEC fans to talk about their conference champ playing for the BCS title....#4 Alabama fans are already getting wood, thinking their team is going to roll over Notre Dame...It must be easy to talk tough after you blast Western Carolina 49-0...Nice scheduling! Yes they think their Tide is the cat's ass when blasting cupcakes, and they just try to blackout those struggles against good teams...

But 'Bama wasn't the only big bad SEC team to play cupcakes Saturday...#6 Florida played Jacksonville State...#5 Georgia played Georgia Southern....#9 South Carolina played Wofford...#8 Texas A&M played Sam Houston State...What the hell is that? Even worse, A&M gave up 28 points...Yes, they won 47-28...But 28 points to SHSU...At least #7 LSU stayed in conference, struggling to beat Ole Miss 41-35...Yeah SEC fans, please keep telling us all how tough your teams are!

-This week's shootout once again comes from the Big-12...#12 Oklahoma went to West Virginia...Hey how do they celebrate Halloween in West Virginia?  They Pump kin!

The Sooners put up 662 total yards, 554 of that through the air...WV put up 458 on the ground and and 320 through the air...In a back and forth battle the Sooners scored last, with 24 seconds left, to win 50-49...

-You know, I mentioned the top teams...But there is another undefeated team...Yes, after beating Wisconsin 21-14, the Ohio State Buckeyes are sitting around with a perfect record, and wondering why they decided to take their Bowl Ban this year, instead of last year...

-There was another big Saturday...Maybe not on a national scale...But it is known as "The Game." Yale at Harvard...Sure, Yale is a 2-8 team and Harvard is a 8-2 team...But this is Harvard vs. Yale...Just like all big rivalry games...None of the other stuff matters...Both teams are bringing everything they have and laying it all on the line...While it was only on the NBC Sports channel, I was glad to see some one showing it...These Ivy League kids deserve to get some pub. too!

Harvard was up 27-24 late, and looking to run out the clock, but when senior running back Trevor Scales broke free on a 3rd and 13 run, there was no stopping him from getting into the end zone 63 yards later, as the Crimson went on to win 34-24...Scales finished the day with 177 yards and that TD...Harvard QB Colton Chapple rushed for 128 yards and a TD himself, while also passing for 209 yards and 2 more TD's...

-Lets close this out with this week's Notre Dame highlights....

That's it, until tomorrow...

The Beeze's College Football Wrap Up

Yeah, it wasn't a good night for Landry Jones and the (#8) Oklahoma Sooners...The (#5) Fighting Irish did what they have done all year...They played, tough, hard-nosed defense...They ran the ball well...215 yards well...They didn't turn the ball over...Limited mistakes...and made big plays when they needed to...

Everett Golson played his cleanest game of the season, and coach Brian Kelly seemed to have no lack of confidence in him when calling the plays...Especially after the Sooners tied the game in the fourth quarter...The Irish came right back, as Golson hit freshman WR Chris Brown with a 50 yard pass...Which setup a Golson TD run five plays later...

After that, it was Manti Te'o intercepting Jones, after Dan Fox broke up a pass to Jalen Saunders, that popped up in the air...Te'o dove for it, and kept it off the ground...The Irish added a field goal...Then Theo Riddick added on a late TD run making the final 30-13 Irish!

The Irish defense held the Sooners to just 15 yards on the ground, forcing them to be one dimensional, and refused to let Oklahoma get off a big play...While the game was tight for 3 plus quarters, it seemed like the Irish were in control all night...I hate to sound like Lou Holtz, but this team really is starting to look like a "team of destiny."

And all critics out there have been pointing at this game for a few weeks now...'If Notre Dame beats Oklahoma then I'll take them seriously."  These are the same people who said the Irish had the nations toughest schedule in their pre-season bullshit, and are now saying the ND schedule is weak...Well, critics...Are you ready to take ND seriously...Rick Reilly, you fucking cunt, is Notre Dame relevant now!?!  Yes, they are...You aren't...Do everyone a favor Reilly...Quit your day job, douchebag!

You all know I've been all in with Collin Klein and (#3) Kansas State this year...Well, this week's game with (#15) Texas Tech, had me worried...The Red Raiders can really put up points...

But Klein made it clear, that there was nothing to worry about, as he passed for 233 yards and 2 TD's and rushed for 83 yards and 2 more TD's, leading the hard-nosed Wildcats to a 55-24 victory...

After Saturday's games, the top two guys in the Heisman race have to be Klein, and Manti Te'o...You know I've been hyping Klein all year, but a LB getting the Heisman would be great!

Both Notre Dame and K-State got help in the BCS rankings as (#10) Georgia beat (#2) Florida 17-9 in a sloppy, defensive battle...Why do I say sloppy? Florida had 10 penalties for 95 yards...and turned the ball over 6 times...Georgia had 14 penalties for 132 yards and turned it over 3 times...None of that high-powered SEC offense in this one...

Staying in the SEC, we may have seen the last of South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore, after one of the worst leg injuries I have ever seen...

That shit was brutal...An early report says "Lattimore tore every ligament in his knee, plus a broken femur, plus a broken knee cap."  Can anyone come back from that?  Does anyone want to?  This kid has been looking at such a bright future, and has ended every season early because of injuries...Just sad...

Lattimore's (#13) Gamecocks had to fight on after seeing their leader carted off to the hospital...They managed to hang and win 38-35 over Tennessee...

#11 Miss State is no longer undefeated after running into the buzz-saw that is #1 Alabama...The Tide rolled right over them, 38-7...

In the PAC-12, USC has been holding on to hope of sneaking back into the BCS picture...The they want to Arizona and that idea got kicked in the ass, as the Wildcats, who always say "Bear Down" I don't know why, beat the Trojans 39-36...Key stat...USC turned it over 5 times...No Heisman for Barkley...No Championship for Kiffin, Barkley, and the Trojans...And  big smile on my face!

#24 Ohio University's dream of a perfect season ended Saturday at rival, Miami of Ohio, as the Bobcats lost 23-20...Miami is not having a good year, but they'll always be up for their rival...With 9 seconds left, the Bobcats had no timeouts...Instead of trying to kick the field goal for the tie, and take it to OT...The Bobcats took a crack at one more play to go for the win...QB Tyler Tettleton was sacked and time ran out...Great balls, but that's a tough way to go...

Staying in the MAC...Kent read, Kent write, Kent State went to undefeated (#15) Rutgers and put another Big East team in their place...The Golden Flashes upset the Scarlet Knights 35-23...The MAC is now 4-0 against the Big East this year...Cincy lost to Toledo last week, ending their undefeated season...The Bearcats gave (#16) Louisville a scare Friday night, but the Cardinals pulled out a 34-31 OT win...Now Rutgers goes down...Who will knock off Louisville?  Sadly, they didn't schedule any MAC schools...

In the late game, we lost another undefeated team as #7 Oregon State was beaten 20-17 by Washington...Again, turnovers is the key stat...Oregon State QB Sean Mannion playing his first game in 3 weeks after injury, threw 4 INT's...When they finally yanked him for Cody Vaz, it was too late...Washington had the momentum and were able to hang on for the win.

That's it for this week...See ya Monday...

The Beeze's College Football Wrap Up

We'll start this week with one of the day's early games...Big-12 and state rivals, Kansas at #7 Kansas State...If you paid attention to my pre-season predictions, and now my weekly wrap up, you know I'm all in with Collin Klein and Kansas State taking the Big-12 title this year...I have to say, early in this game I was a bit nervous...Charlie Weiss was pulling everything he could out of the playbook, and by halftime the Jayhawks were only down 21-14...But that was it...The Wildcats defense buckled down, and the offense rolled...Klein passed for 129 yards and 2 TD's, while rushing for 116 and two more TD's...K-State drilled the Jayhawks 56-16...

The other early game I was bouncing to was from the MAC...Buffalo was visiting the Bobcats at Ohio U...And things didn't look good early for undefeated Ohio, as Buffalo jumped out to an early 14-0 lead...Ohio battled back and had the lead at halftime...Buffalo kept swinging and had the game tied after 3 quarters...The Bobcats pulled ahead and held on for 38-31 win, even though Buffalo had out gained them in yardage, and had a 10 minute TOP advantage on them...I'm sure this was a good reminder that the Bobcats can't coast though their MAC schedule...

I hadn't planned on writing about the #3 Florida State at NC State game, but now I have to...As I started writing this, I saw NC State was hanging in there...And then they did it...On fourth down, with time running out, Mike Glennon connected with Bryan Underwood for a game tying, 2 yards TD pass...And with the extra point. NC State took a 17-16 lead, and held on for the last few seconds to win...Love seeing FSU...Love seeing an upset live like that...And I was shocked to not see the NC State fans storm the field...Very odd to see a big conference upset like this, and not see the student body go bat-shit!

Now lets go to the SEC...I have never found myself rooting for #10 Florida...But today I was, as they took on #4 LSU...I have grown to hate LSU, and their obnoxious fans who think LSU is God's gift to football...Well, your team may have put some points up on Towson, but they didn't do shit against a real defense like Florida...And then Florida's offense just went ball-control all over your ass, hanging onto the ball for 37 minutes and change...The Gators won 14-6 and are now 5-0...

The other big game in the SEC was suppose to be #5 Georgia at #6 South Carolina...Instead it was an ass beating as South Carolina rushed for 230 yards on their way to a 35-7 victory...and that 230 yards doesn't count the 70 yard punt return for a TD by Ace Sanders... South Carolina QB Connor Shaw looked really good as well...This kid is coming along, and the fact that Spurrier doesn't seem to be screwing with his head too much may be a big reason why...But it all started the Gamecocks defense getting into Georgia QB, Aaron Murray's face, and head early...Just a dominating effort...And with Georgia taking the loss, along with LSU's loss, the SEC is looking more interesting...Game to watch next week, South Carolina at Florida...Should be a hell of a game!

Now, before I get into any other games, I have to get to my Fighting Irish...

Manti Te'o and the dominating #9 Fighting Irish defense took to Soldier field to renew an old rivalry with the Miami Hurricanes...I have to say I was a bit worried about Miami's speed, but once they dropped a few passes, on balls that had the secondary beat, the Irish defense woke up and held Miami to just a field goal...It also helped the defense that Notre Dame held onto the ball for over 39 minutes, and rushed for 376 yards...This was an old fashioned ass beating...The Irish ran through Miami the way Taco Bell runs through me...Damn, I really want a Mexican Pizza!  George Atkinson III had 123 yards and a TD, while Cierre Wood put up 118 yards and 2 TD's...Theo Riddick had 21 yards and a TD on 5 carries...Everrett Golson had 51yards on the ground, and Cam McDaniel had 55 yards and 1 TD on 11 carries...

Next week #18 Stanford comes to South Bend to take on the Irish...But this week, Stanford had a bit of a scare, as they didn't feel like playing defense against Arizona...Both teams racked up 617 yards of total offense, each...4 Quarters wasn't enough...Tied at 48, they felt there needed to be more scoring...Stanford must have been feeling the pressure, because they wanted to end this quickly...A rare defense high-light, the Stanford D picked off a Matt Scott pass...Then on their second offensive play, Stepfan Taylor broke off a 21 yard TD run, to end the game 54-48...I hope the Cardinal defense plays this shitty next week!

In the Big-Ten, #24 Northwestern fans were getting excited about their team, until Saturday when they went to Penn State and lost to the Nittany Assholes 39-28...And yes, ESPN televised this weeks game...That's all 6 PSU games on ESPN/ABC...ESPN, the world wide leader in bullshit...Don't worry, if your school and legendary head coach cover up decades of child rape, ESPN will have your back, and do what the can to keep your sanctioned program relevant...

This weeks prime-time Big-Ten game featured #21 Nebraska heading into Columbus to take on #12 Ohio State...Early on this was a tight battle, with plenty of offense...But Ohio State took control and pulled away, winning 63-38...QB Braxton Miller rushed for 186 yards...I have to ask Nebraska, how the hell do you let that happen?   Everyone knows this kid is the key weapon for Ohio State...Stop him...Don't let him run all over you...Force him to beat you with his arm...Did you guys not watch any film on how this kid runs?   But Buckeyes fans are happy...They saw some high-powered offense that they have been waiting to see from Urban Meyer...

Speaking of high-powered offense...#8 West Virginia went down to Texas to take on the #11 Longhorns...Friggin' West Virginia and their offense...460 total yards...Geno Smith passing for 268 and 4 TD's...Texas tried their best to hang with the Mountaineers, as they put up 404 yards of offense...I was expecting Texas' defense to be the one to slow WV down and put them in their place, but I guess I was wrong, as WV won 48-45...I'm really noticing a lack of defense lately, and it's disappointing...

Also in the Big-12, with QB Casey Pachall suspended, #15 TCU lost to Iowa State 37-23...Looking at the numbers you would think TCU should have won this game, but there is that all important category of TURNOVERS...TCU turned it over 5 times...You can't win doing that...

And since I've found myself paying attention to the University of New Hampshire the last couple weeks, why not see what they did this week in the CAA...Well, QB Andy Vailas passed for 252 yards and 4 TD's, while running back Nico Steriti rushed for 126 yards and 2 TD's...Running back Jimmy Owens also added 120 yards on the ground, as UNH beat-up Georgia State 44-21...

That's it for the wrap up...See ya Monday!

The Beeze's College Football Wrap Up (9-16-12)

I WROTE Friday night about Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te'o staying with his team, to play Michigan State Saturday night, even though Tuesday his grandmother died, and Wednesday his girlfriend died...I don't know how he did it...I don't think I'd be able to handle it...But he did...He went out and lead his defense into holding #10 Michigan State to just 3 points...He had 12 tackles, broke up 2 passes, and intercepted a lateral late in the game...It was an amazing effort...

But he wasn't alone...The Notre Dame front 7, no matter which 7 were out there, were all over MSU QB, Andrew Maxwell, who was forced to drop back more then MSU would like, but the Irish defense shut down running back Le'Veon Bell...

The Irish offense was aggressive in the first half, and QB Everrett Golson showed some real flashes of brilliance...But the second half, Kelly held the O back, and called a conservative game, not letting his young QB get into bad situations...The Irish lead by an outstanding defensive performance, won 20-3...

This week's big upset...#21 Stanford and their typical gritty performance beat #2 USC 21-14...Giving Trojan QB Matt Barkley a 0-4 record against the Cardinal...Barkley opened the season as many people's favorite for the Heisman (not me) threw for 254 yards and 2 Interceptions...I think this just killed his Heisman and National Title chances...Oh, can I just say that Lane Kiffin is such an overrated douchebag!

Last week's victim of a major upset, Arkansas had a tough task trying to rebound from their loss to UL Monroe, by taking on #1 Alabama...Worse yet, they had to do it without their starting QB who is still dealing with the ringing bells in his head from last week...Well, Arkansas didn't show much fight, getting destroyed 52-0...

And speaking of UL Monroe...They put another scare into another SEC school this week...The Warhawks came back late, lead by QB Kolton Browning to tie Auburn 28-28, forcing the game to overtime...Browning passed for 237 yards and 3 TD's, while also rushing for 58 yards and another TD...Unfortunately The Warhawks OT field goal was deflected, and Auburn's Cody Parkey knocked in a 35 yard field goal to win it...But after the last two weeks, no one will be looking past UL Monroe...And maybe some scouts will start looking at this Browning kid...

There was another Sun Belt team that was feeling good Saturday night...Western Kentucky went into Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats...Now I know as far as the SEC is concerned, Kentucky is garbage...But to little Western Kentucky, this game means a lot...In state rival...A SEC team...A team they've never beaten...

Well, that changed Saturday...The Hilltoppers left everything on the field, as they beat Kentucky 32-31 in overtime...The Wildcats scored a TD in the first OT...The Hilltoppers came back and RB Antonio Andrews scored a TD...But coach Willie Taggart wasn't going to put his defense out on the field again...He went for it all...Quarterback Kawaun Jakes threw a lateral to Andrews, who threw back to Jakes who ran it in for the two-point conversion, and the win...That people, is what you call having balls!

The Ohio University Bobcats opened their season 3-0 after beating Marshall 27-24...Once again the Bobcats were lead by their QB Tyler Tettleton, who threw for 200 yards and 3 TD's...Ohio's normally tough defense gave up 432 passing yards but came up with a late interception to seal the deal...The D will have to improve if they want to roll through the MAC undefeated...

Another upset Saturday happened in Pittsburgh, as #13 Virginia Tech came to pay the 0-2 Panthers visit...Little did they know the Panthers were going to punch them in the mouth, as Pitt rolled to a 35-17 victory...Va Tech QB Logan Thomas threw 3 interceptions between picking himself up off the turf...After two weeks of looking like shit, Pitt got back to their roots and played some hard nosed football...Maybe they wanted to put the ACC on notice since they'll be leaving the Big lEast along with Syracuse after this year...

(And yes, I'll have plenty in Monday Moaning about ND going partially to the ACC)

In what I expected to be a good ACC match up, #5 Florida State took o Wake Forest...As a matter of fact, in my gambling days, I would have taken Wake w/ the points...Well, it didn't end up being that good of a game, as FSU blew Wake out 52-0...This game was all about Florida State' Chris Thompson...A year after he suffered a broken back in a loss at Wake Forest, the 5 foot 8 inch, 185 pound RB ran for 197 yards and 2 TD's on 9 carries...His TD runs were 74 yards, and 80 yards...Holy SHIT! Great for him!

And yes LSU fan...Way to go...Your team beat Idaho 63-14...Don't get so excited...That's what LSU is suppose to do, right? Wow, I can't wait until they take on Towson in 2 weeks...But at least they'll have a real game at Auburn next week...

In Utah, the third time is a charm...As the Utah players and fans stormed the field 3 times...Yes, 3 times...They had thought they had #25 BYU beaten, but replay showed 1 second left...They cleared the field...BYU lined up for a long filed goal(somewhere around 50 yards)...The kick is blocked, and the field is stormed again...But players and fans were charging onto the field while the ball was still live, as a BYU player had scooped up the ball and was trying to advance it...So, clear the field...Tack on 15 yards...One un-timed play...BYU sets up for a 36 yard field goal...Ball is up, looks good, hooks a bit, hits the upright...Finally! Game over! Utah wins in an exciting game...So exciting it ended 3 times!

Locally, here in a great OAC Rivalry, the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets beat the John Carroll Blue Streaks 32-28 at Don Shula Stadium...It was BW's first win at Shula stadium since 1998...

That's it for now...see ya Monday!

Later, The Beeze.

Manti Te'o Playing with a Heavy Heart

This Wednesday the girlfriend of Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te'o died after a long battle with Leukemia...This news is terrible enough...But Te'o received this news, just twenty four hours after he had gotten the news that his grandmother had died...

I can't imagine dealing with that all at once...Te'o has decided to deal with it, by leaning on his teammates who are all doing their best to be there for him...Te'o will play Saturday at Michigan State...Coach Kelly said, "He wants to be with his teammates. He wants to be with his people that care about him. He's a strong man, and he's going through a tough time, but he'll rise to the occasion."

It is expected that Te'o will head home to Hawaii After Saturday's game, and will be back in time to play against Michigan at home, the next week...

Last season, Te'o lead the Irish defense in holding Michigan State to just 29 yards rushing...There's no way they could do that again without him...Hopefully the rest defense will step up, and take some pressure off of his shoulders...It's got to be tough to go out and play football, with all this on your mind...I'll be honest, if my wife and grandmother both died, a day apart, I wouldn't be going to work...I'd probably be in a bottle...

All the best to Te'o, his family, and Lennay Kekua's family.

The Beeze's 2011 Notre Dame Football Preview

I figure I better get this done since the Irish kick off their season Saturday...And in case you don't know, that guy above, Manti Te'o is going to be a big factor again this year...

Te'o, (133 tackles last season) leads a Notre Dame defense that showed steady improvement throughout last season...And the heart of the defense is Te'o and his fellow linebackers...Playing in the 3-4, he is joined in the middle by Carlo Calabrese, a run stopping machine...Seniors Anthony McDonald and David Posluszny add depth at middle linebacker...Sophomore Kendall Moore hopes his play on special teams will help get him in the rotation...

Senior Darius Fleming and sophomore Prince Shembo will be the starting outside linebackers with senior Steve Filer getting plenty of time in the rotation...Junior Dan Fox hopes to see more playing time either at the middle or outside, after having a great spring...

As good as the Irish look at LB, they look just as good at quarterback...

Dayne Crist will once again be the starter, no matter how much Irish fans fell in love with Tommy Rees late last season...Crist and his skill set are perfect for coach Brian Kelly's offense...Much of the playbook went un-used when Rees had to step in...While he is a excellent passer, he lacks the all-around athletic ability of Crist...Of course Crist has to stay healthy, something that has happened the last couple years...

If injury strikes, Rees, while he has experience, may not be the guy, as Sophomore Andrew Hendrix, who has the strongest arm of the bunch, is breathing down his neck...Hendrix is also a very tough and physical runner...Behind him is Freshman Everett Golson who is the fastest and most athletic of all the QB's...

With Armando Allen, and Robert Hughes now gone, the bulk of the running back duties fall to Cierre Wood...

Wood has a great speed, and excellent vision, and should do well in the spread...For the tougher yards, that Hughes pounded out, the Irish will look to Jonas Gray to be tougher, and hold onto the ball...But the Irish are thin at RB...Freshman Cam McDaniel will most likely be the third back on the team, and will get a look on kick returns...

At Wide Receiver, the Irish will look first and foremost at Michael Floyd...Floyd of course needs to stay healthy for once, and stay out of trouble...Personally I was disappointed that he wasn't hit with a tougher punishment for his latest DUI...

Behind Floyd is TJ Jones, and play-maker, Theo Ridick...Seniors John Goodman and Deion Walker need to step up this year...While undersized, Robby Toma (5'9", 175) seems to make all the tough catches, and makes a nice slot receiver...

Tyler Eifert is looking to be the next in a long line of excellent ND Tight Ends...Fifth year senior Mike Ragone is trying to comeback from countless injuries...Look for Sophomore Alex Welch to get some looks this year...

The Offensive Line is loaded with experience, and depth...Junior left tackle Zack Martin is one of the best in college football...He'll be joined by Chris Watt on the left side...Senior Braxton Cave anchors the line at center...Next to him on the right is seniors Trevor Robinson, and Taylor Dever...The Irish have 3 seniors to work in the rotation, including the versatile ANdrew Nuss...The Irish also have 5 freshman and a couple of sophomores waiting in the wings...

Lead by senior ends, Kapron Lewis-Moore and Ethan Johnson, the defensive line should be just as good as the linebackers...Junior Sean Cwynar will start at Nose Tackle, but Hafis Williams and Louis Nix will get plenty of playing time...But the player to watch, is early enrollee DE, Aaron Lynch, (6'6", 260) who by all accounts was the most impressive player in the spring game...

While, raw, the Irish coaching staff love his skill and athletic ability...Another top recruit, and DE, Stephon Tuitt (6'5", 270) could also find his way into some playing time...

Now we come to the Secondary, which will be lead by fifth-year senior, safety, Harrison Smith...

Smith is an intense, hard hitting, athletic player who was the teams second leading tackler last season...He needs to be even better this year, if the Irish defense is going to continue to progress...Playing the other safety spot will most likely be Zeke Motta, who stepped in when Jamoris Slaughter went down with an injury last year...Slaughter should still get plenty of playing time, and may be the teams nickel back, since the Irish are so thin at corner, and having played corner in the past...

the Irish have two excellent corner backs in Robert Blanton, and Gary Gray...Both have plenty of experience, quality cover skills, and both play the run very well...But behind them is youth and inexperience...Sophomores Bennett Jackson and Lo Wood need to really step up, or the Irish could be in trouble, if either Blanton or Gray get injured...

As for special Teams...the Irish have an excellent kicker in David Ruffer...Freshman Kyle Brindza will push for kick-off duties, and to take the punting job, as he has shown to have the teams most powerful leg...The Irish have plenty of talented players to use in the return game...Look for Theo Riddick and Bennett Jackson to get the first cracks at it...

I expect 10 wins this year...The Notre Dame schedule is not a walk in the park...They open Saturday against a good USF team, that has an underrated, multiple-threat QB in B.J. Daniels...And lots of team speed on the defensive side of the ball...This game should give us a good read on what the Irish really has as a team...

Stay tuned...

Go Irish!
