Monday Moaning

Well this weekend, was my birthday weekend...My birthday fell on Sunday, so I consider the whole weekend as my birthday...And it was a good time...Saturday afternoon Mrs. Beeze and I went to Cleveland's historic, West Side Market for lunch, and to load up on some food...You can get anything there...Great butchers, bakers, and pasta makers...Great local produce, at great prices...And after a few beers, I was ready to find some hipsters to punch...Oh how the hipsters love the Ohio City area...

We got 5 red peppers, and 6 green peppers for $3...You can't beat that...And those, along with some meat we got, lead to my Sunday birthday dinner...My fucking awesome (if I do say so myself) Stuffed Peppers...

The rest of Saturday I spent catching up on COLLEGE_FOOTBALL...That and Mrs. Beeze giving me my favorite birthday present...No, not the 1976 Fender Starcaster I wanted...

Sunday I took the kids to the park, while the wife did some shopping for the Little Beeze's B-day, which is Tuesday...Then she baked a cake for us to have after my awesome Stuffed Peppers...Then I got my gift from the kids...They got me a swear jar...These little smart-ass, shits!  Couple of ball-busters!  The boy better watch it, or I'm taking his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back to Toys-R-Us...

So in sports, the big story was the replacement refs screwing the pooch during the Monday Night Football game between Green Bay and Seattle...Now I was rooting for Seattle, if for no other reason than to screw with my buddy Ryan...But there were some really bad calls in this game, along with some bad no calls...But then came the Hail Mary at the end...And holy shit balls, the sports world went crazy...I thought the call was wrong, but it was made, and the replay officials stood by it...But then our buddy Mo posted this LINK on Facebook and I'm willing to buy into it possibly, if for no other reason then I was pissed about all the people who were shitting on Golden Tate and company for celebrating the win...A win is a win, and you're happy when you get one, especially after a hard-fought game, like that one...

And Packers fans, who were so upset, and felt they had a win stolen from them...Watch the game again...The Seahawks defense kicked your Packers ass all over the field...Green Bay's defense showed up, but the offense was crap...They got owned by Seattle...No one is entitled to wins...They're earned, and if you really watched that game, you didn't earn it Green Bay!  Yeah, my Packer Backer friends are gonna have something to say about that!

The replacement refs sucked through their brief stint in the NFL...And I was just about ready to stop tuning into the NFL...Then the league came out and backed up the refs TD call from Monday night, which at that point I was firmly planted in the they got it wrong camp...And hours later they were trying their best to hammer out a  deal with the real refs, to get them out on the field for Thursday nights game...I'm sorry, but right then, what little credibility the league had, was lost in my eyes...

So Thursday night, I didn't watch one second of the Browns and Ravens game...And let me tell you this...It was wonderful...It's amazing what not watching the Browns will do for your mental well-being...The wife and I popped on a few episodes of "Arrested Development" on Netflix, bumped uglies, and she went to bed...Then I watched my fellow Browns fans be miserable once again on Twitter and Facebook...And there I sat, grinning from ear to ear...No stress...No frustration...I mean you go into a Browns game expecting them to blow, but if you don't watch it, you haven't invested/wasted any time into it...I may have to stick to this strategy, because at this point, it wouldn't surprise me if the Browns end up with that perfect 0-16 record...

In other NFL news, the Patriots got their shit together and beat the Bills Sunday 52-28 with two backs gaining 100 yards each on the ground, and Tom Brady, looking like Tom Brady...

The 49ers shutout the Jets 34-0 as Sanchez looked like crap again...And yes, the cries and chants for the savior, Tebow have started...

The Arizona Cardinals are undefeated...That just doesn't sound right...But I mean they did play the Dolphins Sunday...The Cards should be worried that it took OT to beat the 'Phins...

And in what had to be a heart-breaker for B-Dub, the Falcons squeaked out a 30-28 comeback win against the Panthers...Sorry pal, I know that one hurt...

And, am I the only one shocked to see the Vikings are 3-1, while the Lions are 1-3, after their conference match up Sunday, which the Vikings won 20-13...Before the season started I expected those records to be flipped...I gotta figure the Packers and Bears are starting to take notice of the Vikings now...

That's it for now people...Have a week...

The Beeze's Colege Football Recap

Well this week, I guess we have to start with Big-12 battle of no defense...Going into Saturday's game, the over was 82...#9 West Virginia and Baylor blew that out of the water, as these two high-powered offenses duked it out in a pass happy game...

West Virginia's QB Geno Smith passed for 656 yards and 8 TD's while leading his team to a 70-63 win...Baylor's Nick Florence did his best, throwing for 581 yards and 5 TD's...The Bears WR, Terrance Williams set a Big-12 record with 314 yards receiving, to go with his 2 TD's...Tough break for WV's WR Stedman Bailey, who had set the record earlier in the game, with 303 yards...He added 5 TD's...

Quite a switch from the defensive battle we saw last week with Kansas State and Oklahoma...#12 Texas and Oklahoma State tried to do their best to keep up with both their QB's putting up 300 yards each, and while putting up big points, they couldn't match WV and Baylor's output...

After Oklahoma State took 36-34 lead with two and a half minutes left in the game, Texas QB David Ash drove the Longhorns on a 75 yard game winning drive, capped off with a Joe Bergeron 2 yard TD run, with less than 30 seconds left...Texas wins 41-36...What a tough loss for Oke State....

Then there is the biggest full of shit team in College Football...# LSU...This week they took on another powerhouse in Towson...To no one's surprise, LSU won...But to their own disgrace, they didn't look like the dominating team that their fans think they are, as the final was 38-22...The great and mighty LSU Tigers gave up 22 points to Towson...22 points...22 fucking points to Towson!

Can we please drop LSU out of the top 10 already...This team is a fraud! I don't care that they play in the SEC...Their non-conference schedule is weak...Only 3 of their SEC opponents on their schedule this year should be a concern based on how grossly over-hyped this team is...

This week's big SEC game was between Tennessee and #5 Georgia...This was another offensive battle as Georgia put up 560 yards of offense while Tennessee put up 478...Yes, the trend of no defense continues as Georgia had to battle to win 51-44...

Ohio State fans are thrilled that their team has racked up a 5-0 record, after beating Michigan State 17-16 Saturday...But they shouldn't be that thrilled considering the other 4 teams they beat were Miami (Ohio), UCF, Cal (who gave them a scare), and UAB...

Then there was the Big-Ten  prime-time game...A rivalry that the Big-Ten seems to be trying to force...#22 Nebraska and Wisconsin...Wisconsin and Montee Ball were suppose to be a running team, but while Ball had 90 yards on the ground, the team finished with a total of 56 yards rushing...Instead it was Nebraska that was running the ball, with Taylor Martinez getting 107 yards on the ground, and Rex Burkhead with 86...Martinez also passed for 181 yards and 2 TD's to go with his one rushing TD...

Wisconsin was up 20-10 at Halftime, and then came right out in the second half and went up 27-10...After that, it was all Nebraska fighting back, to tie the game at 27 at the end of the third quarter...With just over 9 minutes left in the game, the Cornhuskers kicked the go-ahead filed goal, and then kept playing hard-nosed defense to hold on to the 30-27 win...

It what was premiere match up in the CAA, New Hampshire looked to bounce back from their tough 64-61 loss to Old Dominion, as undefeated Delaware came to visit the Wildcats...

After being down 7-0 at Halftime, UNH Quarterback, Andy Vailas got the wildcats on track, passing for 315 yards and 2 TD's, while also rushing for another TD and 36 yards, leading UNH 34-14 victory...

Good too see these guys come back strong after last week...

In case you missed it...ESPN once again put Penn State on the air...All 5 of Penn State's games have been televised on ESPN/ABC...And none of these games were against "Big Time" opponents...They opened against Ohio U. with all the post Sandusky/Paterno scandal and punishment hanging over the campus...ESPN hyped it for days...It bothered me, but didn't surprise me...The best part wast the Bobcats winning 24-14...

Then they went to Virginia and lost 17-16 because their kicker couldn't hit water if he fell out of a fucking boat...Then they got their first win against Navy...That was disappointing...Then they beat Temple...I would hope so...And Saturday they beat Illinois...Illinois, which is one of the Big-Ten's embarrassments to football...The others being Indiana, and Minnesota...

I'm sorry, but clearly ESPN signed a hush-hush deal to try and keep PSU Football in the public eye, hoping that when their penalties are over and done with, that they won't be completely irrelevant...(this is just my theory, backed up by nothing but my hatred of ESPN and Penn State...

And finally, the late game that should have been on major network...A big PAC-12 battle between Arizona, and Pac-12 surprise team, #18 Oregon State...Yet again, we had another big offense game...The Beavers put up 612 yards of total offense, while Arizona put up 545, in a back and forth battle that was finally settled when the Beavers went 75 yards in 10 plays to score the game winning TD with just over a minute left...Then iced it with a interception, winning 38-35...

That's it for this week...See ya Monday

Monday Moaning

And I thought they only played Hockey and drank until they puked up at the University of New Hampshire...

Then this weekend I found out that they play football there, and that they can put up some points...I held this out of my WRAP_UP yesterday, because I thought the little guys should get some love all on their own...

In a CAA matchup, the Wildcats of  UNH headed to Old Dominion for an epic, no defense allowed battle...At halftime, UNH had a 40-24 lead...But there was no way that Old Dominion was going to lay down...Lead by their Quarterback, Taylor Heinicke, who passed for 730 yards of the teams 824 yards, and 5 TD's, the Monarchs fought back, and with just over 3 minutes left in the game, it was tied 61-61...Heinicke also added a TD and 61 yards on the ground...

And Wildcats fans thought their QB, Andy Vailas was having a good day 336 yards and 5TD's...He also added 80 yards and another TD on the ground...UNH had a much more balanced attack, as they also put up 389 yards rushing, lead by Nico Steriti, who had 201 and 2 TD's...

But with limited time left, the Monarchs still had enough fight in them to get off a 25 yard game winning field goal with 41 seconds left...Old Dominion 64...New Hampshire 61...Crazy College Football Fun people...It's not all just about the big schools...Here's the highlights...

This week, the Cleveland Browns sucked ass big time...Losing  24-14 to the Buffalo Bills...Last week Trent Richardson looked good...This week, he looked like crap, gaining 27 yards on 12 carries...Normally, I would never say this, but I was lucky to not have to sit through watching this whole game...Instead we had to take the kids to a birthday party at Chuck-e-Cheese...Oh, fuck that place...I'm not sure which is more torturous...Watching the Browns, or being at Chuck-e-Cheese...

Next the Browns go to Baltimore for a Thursday night game against the Ravens...The ratings are gonna suck for this one, except in Baltimore, where they'll love watching the old Browns destroy the new Browns...Sorry my fellow Clevelanders, but the season is done already folks...2 games with the Ravens and Steelers, and one more with Cincy...It doesn't even matter who else is on the schedule, that shit is tough enough...

Hey, have you guys seen the video of  New York sports radio douche, Mike Francesa falling asleep on the air...It's clear as day, and he continues to deny he was dozing off...

What a douchebag!

I don't have much else right now...Just happy have the wife back home...The kids are happy too...Especially Molly who has been extra clingy with Mom this weekend...

I'm going to close with a video from a new band from England, called The Milk...These guys have some soul...And this song features one of my favorite actors, who along with his show "Luther" got screwed at the Emmys...

Have a week...

The Beeze College Football Wrap Up

The past couple of years when I've written about the #11 Notre Dame/ #18Michigan game, I've found myself writing about the incredible performances put on by Michigan QB, Denard Robinson...Well, not this time...Once again the Notre Dame defense played a great game...And just like last week, the Defense was lead by Manti Te'o...Te'o had 2 of the 4 interceptions that Robinson threw...Robinson made it clear that he's Michigan best running back, gaining 90 yards on the ground...But I'm not sure if he's their best QB....

The Notre Dame offense didn't make things easy on the defense, as Everrett Golson threw 2 interceptions in his own end of the field, early in the game...But the Irish defense kept Michigan off the board until the 4th quarter, giving up just two field goals...Golson was yanked, for the second time this year for Tommy Rees...While Rees kept the mistakes to a minimum, the offense was pretty conservative, relying on the defense's strong play, and holding on for a 13-6 victory...

I hated seeing Golson looking so dejected on the sidelines...The kid has great talent, and you don't want him to lose his confidence...Coach Kelly said after the game, that Everrett Golson is still their guy, and from time to time, they will look for Rees to get them through a tough spot...I'm not going to bitch right now...They're winning...And whatever gets you the win is okay with me...

And you can't say enough about Manti Te'o...Two weeks in a row, after dealing with the deaths of his grandmother and his girlfriend, there he is, leading his team...Playing great football...He hasn't made an INT during his time at Notre Dame...He now has 3 in the last 2 games...Watch this kid play people...Come April, he'll be a first round pick!

Who wants highlights?  I do!

Now if you like College Football like I do...Then Saturday night is your kind of night...Beside Notre Dam and Michigan in prime-time...You also had Florida State playing Clemson, and Kansas State visiting Oklahoma both in Prim-time...Oh, and Auburn facing LSU...Good stuff...

Lets start at Auburn...I'm so sick of people talking about how great #2 LSU is...So far they have played nobodies, and have blown them out...And stupid LSU fan thinks they're the shit...Well, this is how great they are...The beat Auburn 12-10...That's right, not 49-10...12-10...1-3 Auburn, had LSU sweating bullets...And that 1 win was an OT win against ULM...Let me just say this LSU fans...Your team better knuckle up for next weeks game against Towson...

Now, I have to talk about #15 Kansas State going to face #6 Oklahoma...This game was a hard-hitting battle...Now when I did my pre-season predictions, I said Oklahoma would win the Big-12, but I warned people about Kansas State, who gets no respect, and I had K-State QB Collin Klein as a Heisman sleeper...Well, the Wildcats didn't disappoint...They went into a hostile environment...Played tough defense, and gritty offense and managed to upset the Sooners 24-19...The biggest thing that kept the Sooners from winning was 3 turnovers...Almost 4, but one was overturned by review...Also 4-10 on third downs makes life hard too...

Klein's numbers weren't outstanding, only passing for 149 yards, and rushing for 79 and a TD...But he did what his team needed, as K-State beat Oklahoma in time of possession by almost ten minutes, and didn't turn the ball over...

Then there was #10 Clemson at #4 Florida State, in a huge ACC match up...I had picked Clemson to win the ACC, and I was liking what I was seeing early in this game...Their offense was looking good, finishing with 426 total yards, and 37 points, seems like a good day at the office...But the Seminoles turned it on in the late in the third quarter, racking up a total of 667 yards and putting 49 points on the board...It became clear as the game went on, that FSU had too much depth, size and strength, took the lead, and wore Clemson out...

Saturday afternoon, there was another good game...Two PAC-12 teams that have been surprising people...Oregon State at #19 UCLA...This game was about offense, and two QB's who can sling it...UCLA's Brett Hundley who passed for 372 of their 444 total yards...And Oregon State's Sean Mannion threw for 379 of their 501 total yards...Surprisingly, it wasn't a 49-45 game...Oregon State pulled out the victory and their second upset of the year, winning 27-20...

There was another PAC-12 game that many of us were looking forward to, as #22 Arizona visited #3 Oregon...Everyone knows about Oregon's awful, constantly changing uniforms, and their high-powered offense...But after Arizona beat up on Oklahoma State, people started taking them seriously...Well, looks like they need to go back to the drawing board, as Oregon has spent the evening showing people that they are the class of the PAC-12, destroying Arizona 49-0...

In the SEC I was looking forward to the Missouri / #7 South Carolina game...While Missouri is 2-2 (0-2 in the SEC) they've played hard, and stayed in games...And let's be honest, you never really know what's going to happen with Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks...Well, let's put it this way...Missouri is having a rough first season in the SEC, as South Carolina beat them 31-10, and it didn't even seem that close...

Now I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but it's really getting under my skin...So far this season, ESPN/ABC has televised every one of Penn State's games...Has it become ESPN's personal crusade to keep Penn State slightly relevant while they are under NCAA sanctions?

Is it just that they want to keep a spotlight on the child rape that took place there?  I'm not getting that...They sure love showing the blue ribbons...Hey dummies, blue ribbons don't fix the lives that have been ruined by what happened there, and what was covered up there...And ESPN likes showing the dumb-ass fans/students/alumni that still have their undying loyalty to Joe Paterno, and feel he was wronged, and that they are the victims...I truly hate that place...But I really hate ESPN/ABC for continuously putting them on the air...Oh, PSU won 24-13 over Temple, if anyone cared...Burn in hell!

That's it for this week...Feel free to add your College Football highlights...See ya Monday!

Monday Moaning

Well, yesterday I covered some of the college football highlights, but I have to start Monday Moaning off with the news that broke last week about Notre Dame...I wanted to write about it then, but I had my hands full with the kids, and the wife out of town...

For those who didn't hear, Notre Dame will be joining the ACC in 2014, for all sports, except Football...Now, while they aren't joining for Football, there are stipulations regarding Football...The Irish must schedule 5 ACC opponents each season, and must play each ACC team withing a 3 year period...It's as close as anyone was going to get ND Football to commit, right now...I feel this is just a stepping stone for the Irish to join fully...I'll get to that in a minute...

This is huge for the ACC...ND fans travel, so those ACC schools that aren't really Football schools will have packed houses when the Irish come to town...Also teams like Maryland for example, will face ND at a larger stadium like M&T Bank Stadium (home of the Ravens)...Which means more ticket sales...

Also in the deal, if ND doesn't qualify or get selected for a major BCS bowl, the ACC can use them for one of their automatic tie-ins with certain bowls...Which is good for the bowls, and the ACC, because the Irish travel well...

This deal also makes the ACC the elite Soccer and Lacrosse conference, already having a number of schools that are strong in those sports...Two sports the Irish have been doing very well in...Plus, with Pitt and Syracuse joining the ACC in 2013, and the Irish in 2014, it becomes an even bigger monster in College Basketball...Which will bring in more money from ESPN and their contract with the ACC...

The Big Ten went hard after Notre Dame, but made it clear, it was all or nothing...If the Irish didn't get in with football, then they weren't welcome...Great stand by the Big Ten, which can afford to make enemies since their conference makes the most money...Yes, SEC guy, you may kick them all over the field, but they manage to make more money then you...

The Big 12, also went after ND hard, and most likely would have given them a similar deal as the ACC, but Notre Dame wanted to stay East-ish...

Before I mentioned this being a stepping stone for Notre Dame eventually going all in, with the ACC...It's my opinion that within 5 years or so, we will see 4 "SUPER CONFERENCES"...We'll see Louisville, USF, Rutgers, and Cincinnati taken from the Big East...I would guess mainly by the ACC...Louisville possibly by the SEC...

The Big-12 will get chopped up and spread among the Big Ten, SEC, and Pac-12...Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, West Virginia, Kansas State, Kansas, (because of basketball) Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas Tech...Maybe even Iowa State (built in rivalry with Iowa in the Big Ten)...And then a few others will find their way in, like Boise State, Fresno State, and BYU...Possibly a few others...

I know Big-12 people don't like what I just said, but I think that is where we are heading...I think we were on our way when Nebraska, Texas A&M, Colorado, and Missouri all split, but the conference came out swinging, and managed to keep itself alive...But I think the men hold the power will convince the conferences that there is too much money to be made with 4 "SUPER CONFERENCES" and a sexy playoff system, that many fans have been clamoring for...

I'd love to hear what you think about this...

The other big story on my mind this week, is the NHL owners have locked out the players after the two sides couldn't agree on a new CBA...The clock ran out at 11:59PM Saturday...What I find even more ridiculous about this, is all day Friday, and Saturday teams were signing, and re-signing players to multi-million dollar contracts...The same type of contracts these owners have been bitching about...

The last lockout, the players swallowed a good deal of pride, and left a good deal of money on the table, thinking they were doing the best thing for the game...After a few years of struggling to get the media attention Hockey deserves, things started getting better for the NHL...The sport seemed to be on the rise the last couple years...

And now this happens...The mainstream media will be turning it's back on Hockey again...Fans like me will be pissed...I already canceled my Center Ice package...I was really excited to see Rick Nash playing for my New York Rangers...Now, I'm pissed...I plan on spending my money on some College Hockey and some AHL Hockey...It's going to be awhile until the NHL sees a dime from me...I don't think the players should get screwed...And I think the owners need to look in the mirror...Because they and that douchebag Bettman are the biggest problems with their business of Hockey.

Lastly, the Cleveland Browns lost Sunday to the Bengals...I'm not surprised, are you? And while the defense didn't play nearly as well as they did last week, the offense showed some real improvement...Trent Richardson rushed for 109 yards and a TD...He looked like a different guy out there this week...And speaking of looking like a different guy...Brandon Weeden passed for 322 yards, and 2 TD's...And he threw no Interceptions...He actually didn't look like a high school kid, shitting his pants...Does that mean there is hope for this team? I don't know...I stopped getting my hopes up years ago...I'll just watch and see what happens...

That's it for now...Have a week...

The Beeze's College Football Wrap Up (9-16-12)

I WROTE Friday night about Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te'o staying with his team, to play Michigan State Saturday night, even though Tuesday his grandmother died, and Wednesday his girlfriend died...I don't know how he did it...I don't think I'd be able to handle it...But he did...He went out and lead his defense into holding #10 Michigan State to just 3 points...He had 12 tackles, broke up 2 passes, and intercepted a lateral late in the game...It was an amazing effort...

But he wasn't alone...The Notre Dame front 7, no matter which 7 were out there, were all over MSU QB, Andrew Maxwell, who was forced to drop back more then MSU would like, but the Irish defense shut down running back Le'Veon Bell...

The Irish offense was aggressive in the first half, and QB Everrett Golson showed some real flashes of brilliance...But the second half, Kelly held the O back, and called a conservative game, not letting his young QB get into bad situations...The Irish lead by an outstanding defensive performance, won 20-3...

This week's big upset...#21 Stanford and their typical gritty performance beat #2 USC 21-14...Giving Trojan QB Matt Barkley a 0-4 record against the Cardinal...Barkley opened the season as many people's favorite for the Heisman (not me) threw for 254 yards and 2 Interceptions...I think this just killed his Heisman and National Title chances...Oh, can I just say that Lane Kiffin is such an overrated douchebag!

Last week's victim of a major upset, Arkansas had a tough task trying to rebound from their loss to UL Monroe, by taking on #1 Alabama...Worse yet, they had to do it without their starting QB who is still dealing with the ringing bells in his head from last week...Well, Arkansas didn't show much fight, getting destroyed 52-0...

And speaking of UL Monroe...They put another scare into another SEC school this week...The Warhawks came back late, lead by QB Kolton Browning to tie Auburn 28-28, forcing the game to overtime...Browning passed for 237 yards and 3 TD's, while also rushing for 58 yards and another TD...Unfortunately The Warhawks OT field goal was deflected, and Auburn's Cody Parkey knocked in a 35 yard field goal to win it...But after the last two weeks, no one will be looking past UL Monroe...And maybe some scouts will start looking at this Browning kid...

There was another Sun Belt team that was feeling good Saturday night...Western Kentucky went into Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats...Now I know as far as the SEC is concerned, Kentucky is garbage...But to little Western Kentucky, this game means a lot...In state rival...A SEC team...A team they've never beaten...

Well, that changed Saturday...The Hilltoppers left everything on the field, as they beat Kentucky 32-31 in overtime...The Wildcats scored a TD in the first OT...The Hilltoppers came back and RB Antonio Andrews scored a TD...But coach Willie Taggart wasn't going to put his defense out on the field again...He went for it all...Quarterback Kawaun Jakes threw a lateral to Andrews, who threw back to Jakes who ran it in for the two-point conversion, and the win...That people, is what you call having balls!

The Ohio University Bobcats opened their season 3-0 after beating Marshall 27-24...Once again the Bobcats were lead by their QB Tyler Tettleton, who threw for 200 yards and 3 TD's...Ohio's normally tough defense gave up 432 passing yards but came up with a late interception to seal the deal...The D will have to improve if they want to roll through the MAC undefeated...

Another upset Saturday happened in Pittsburgh, as #13 Virginia Tech came to pay the 0-2 Panthers visit...Little did they know the Panthers were going to punch them in the mouth, as Pitt rolled to a 35-17 victory...Va Tech QB Logan Thomas threw 3 interceptions between picking himself up off the turf...After two weeks of looking like shit, Pitt got back to their roots and played some hard nosed football...Maybe they wanted to put the ACC on notice since they'll be leaving the Big lEast along with Syracuse after this year...

(And yes, I'll have plenty in Monday Moaning about ND going partially to the ACC)

In what I expected to be a good ACC match up, #5 Florida State took o Wake Forest...As a matter of fact, in my gambling days, I would have taken Wake w/ the points...Well, it didn't end up being that good of a game, as FSU blew Wake out 52-0...This game was all about Florida State' Chris Thompson...A year after he suffered a broken back in a loss at Wake Forest, the 5 foot 8 inch, 185 pound RB ran for 197 yards and 2 TD's on 9 carries...His TD runs were 74 yards, and 80 yards...Holy SHIT! Great for him!

And yes LSU fan...Way to go...Your team beat Idaho 63-14...Don't get so excited...That's what LSU is suppose to do, right? Wow, I can't wait until they take on Towson in 2 weeks...But at least they'll have a real game at Auburn next week...

In Utah, the third time is a charm...As the Utah players and fans stormed the field 3 times...Yes, 3 times...They had thought they had #25 BYU beaten, but replay showed 1 second left...They cleared the field...BYU lined up for a long filed goal(somewhere around 50 yards)...The kick is blocked, and the field is stormed again...But players and fans were charging onto the field while the ball was still live, as a BYU player had scooped up the ball and was trying to advance it...So, clear the field...Tack on 15 yards...One un-timed play...BYU sets up for a 36 yard field goal...Ball is up, looks good, hooks a bit, hits the upright...Finally! Game over! Utah wins in an exciting game...So exciting it ended 3 times!

Locally, here in a great OAC Rivalry, the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets beat the John Carroll Blue Streaks 32-28 at Don Shula Stadium...It was BW's first win at Shula stadium since 1998...

That's it for now...see ya Monday!

Manti Te'o Playing with a Heavy Heart

This Wednesday the girlfriend of Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te'o died after a long battle with Leukemia...This news is terrible enough...But Te'o received this news, just twenty four hours after he had gotten the news that his grandmother had died...

I can't imagine dealing with that all at once...Te'o has decided to deal with it, by leaning on his teammates who are all doing their best to be there for him...Te'o will play Saturday at Michigan State...Coach Kelly said, "He wants to be with his teammates. He wants to be with his people that care about him. He's a strong man, and he's going through a tough time, but he'll rise to the occasion."

It is expected that Te'o will head home to Hawaii After Saturday's game, and will be back in time to play against Michigan at home, the next week...

Last season, Te'o lead the Irish defense in holding Michigan State to just 29 yards rushing...There's no way they could do that again without him...Hopefully the rest defense will step up, and take some pressure off of his shoulders...It's got to be tough to go out and play football, with all this on your mind...I'll be honest, if my wife and grandmother both died, a day apart, I wouldn't be going to work...I'd probably be in a bottle...

All the best to Te'o, his family, and Lennay Kekua's family.

Monday Moaning

Yeah, that's about the best Browns relayed thing we're going to see this year...The Cleveland Browns opened their season at home, taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in what could only be described as The Toilet Bowl...

The Browns hit another milestone as this game started...Sunday, the Browns started Brandon Weeden at Quarterback...Their 17th QB since 1999...

Look at that list of shit...Just one bust after another, or castaway after another...Well Weeden fits right in...He ended the game with a 5.1 QB rating, after only completing 12 of 35, for 118 yards and 4 interceptions...And even after he sucked that bad, and #3 overall pick Trent Richardson wasn't very impressive, the Browns almost won...Yes, they lost 17-16...The Defense scored the Browns only touchdown...The defense was pretty damn good...They were all over Michael Vick's ass, all day long...Just kept drilling him...They also picked him off 4 times, but it wasn't enough...

Nothing sucks like watching your teams defense play their balls off, while the offense looks like fucking school girls...Weeden, a 28 year old rookie, looked like a 18 year old...So many bad throws...So many over-throws...Missed wide open guys...Just horrible...Anybody else thinking the Browns would have been better off betting the farm on RG3?

All he did for the Redskins was pass for 2 TD's and 320 yards, and also rushed for 42 yards...Good call Holmgren...Your star running back who missed most of the pre-season didn't do too much for ya...

Local media dolts were all clamoring when Trent Richardson put his head down and blew an Eagles defender's helmet off...Well, that was about it for Trent's highlights...One tough run, and then the Eagles locked him down...

We should have known...Browns once again came out in their stupid all white uniforms again...Where the hell have the brown jerseys been for all these years? Why not change the name to the Cleveland Whites? I bet that would piss off Al Sharpton!

Sunday, the rest of the NFL paid their respects to Art Modell...That didn't happen here in Cleveland...Why, well because people in Cleveland haven't gotten over Art Modell moving HIS team to Baltimore...And most of them refuse to acknowledge the FACTS...

Now normally this would be the part of the show where I would normally be pumping out some Notre Dame, and College Football talk...Well from now on I'll be posting my College Football Wrap_Up on Sundays...

Not to get too political, but I have always found the gay marriage topic, to be a bullshit issue...One of those distractions to keep us from paying attention to the important shit...I'm all for gay marriage...I actually go along with that line about "All men are created equal." Now if you're opposed to gay marriage, that's your right, to have that opinion...I think it's stupid, but oh well...

Then Maryland state delegate Emmett C. Burns Jr. got all up in arms because Ravens LB Brendon Ayanbadejo openly supports gay marriage...Thankfully Vikings punter Chris Kluwe TOLD Mr. Burns what an ass he is...I don't know where Kluwe stands on the economy, or defense, or medicare, but I know I'd vote for him if ran for public office, just because of the way he let Burns have it...The DC douchebags could use some real people in there, telling it like it is...

That's it for now...The wife leaves for her training this morning, and 2 of my 3 kids have colds, which should make this first of two weeks as a single dad, awesome!

Have a week...

The Beeze's College Football Wrap Up

With all the games in College Football, who thought we'd be starting off with UL Monroe shocking #8 Arkansas? Yes, the Warhawks took down the Razorbacks in overtime, winning 34- 31...The star of the game was UL Monroe QB, Kolton Browning, who passed for 412 yards, and 3 TD's...He also racked up 76 yards and another TD on the ground...But the Warhawks defense needs some love too, as they knocked Arkansas' over-hyped QB, Tyler Wilson out of the game at halftime...Wilson was taken out after suffering a head injury, brought on by the numerous hits he was taking...Arkansas is going to be in for a long season going against SEC defenses, if they can't figure out how to block...

I'd like to thank the Razorbacks for showing us how useless the pre-season/early season rankings are...These guys were suppose to be the 8th best team in the land, and they just got taken to the wood shed by UL Monroe...

Another team not living up to their pre-season billing, was #13 Wisconsin, who went to Oregon State, and didn't get a very friendly welcome, as the Beavers defense smothered the Badgers...Wisconsin expected to use their ground game and start back Montee Ball, were shut down, Only gaining 72 yards on the ground...61 from Ball, who's 21 games with a TD streak was snapped...The Beavers were also blitzing QB Danny O'Brien non-stop...No one was expecting much from the Beavers this year...Should we be paying more attention?

My sleeper team, Kansas State destroyed Miami 52-13...And it wasn't even that close...One of my Heisman favorites, K-State QB, Collin Klein rushed for 3 TD's and 71 yards, while also passing for 210 yards and another TD...

Texas A&M and Missouri got a not-so friendly welcome to the SEC this week...A&M fell to Florida 20-17...The Aggies went to the half with the lead but got out played in the second half...&8 yards in penalties will never help your cause either...

Georgia paid Missouri a visit, and for 3 quarters it was a really good game...But Georgia took control in the fourth, and blew it open, winning 41-20...

How about ESPN's favorite program...Penn State was trying to bounce back from their loss to Ohio University last week...And wow, they really miss their kicker who transferred to Texas right now...The Nittany Lions place kicker, Sam Ficken missed 4 field goals Saturday at Virginia, in what must have been a real mother fucker for PSU fans to watch, losing 17-16...Guess what...As much as ESPN is rooting for you, the rest of us aren't!

And since I brought up the Ohio Bobcats...They won again Saturday, beating New Mexico State 51-24...Ohio QB, Tyler Tettleton passed for 257 yards and 2 TD's...Running back Beau Blankenship picked up where he left off, putting up 168 yards, and 2 TD's on the ground...

The Nebraska/UCLA game ended up being better than I expected...Nebraska put up 439 yards of totall offense...You'd think that would be good against UCLA, which hasn't been much to write home about for more than a few years now...Well then the Bruins go ahead and put up 653 total yards of offense...WTF!?! And somehow UCLA only won 36-30....Well they did have 126 yards in penalties...We've all headed into the season only really looking at USC and Oregon out of the Pac-12...With what the Beavers and Bruins did Saturday, maybe we need to look deepr...

Then of course there the Fighting Irish, taking on Purdue...

The Irish pulled out the20-17 win with a late field goal, after a drive lead by Tommy Rees...Tommy Rees...No! Coach Kelly said Everett Golson's hand was dinged up, and was having trouble gripping the ball...I hope that's the truth, and it wasn't a lack of confidence, for a late game drive...I want to see Golson get that experience...The kid is a real talent...Plus I hate Rees, who was a turnover machine the last couple seasons...Plus I would have thrown him off the team after he took a swing at a cop...Kelly also said after the game that, "Golson is still our starting Quarterback."

The Irish struggled to get their running game going all day...Notre Dame had no trouble running the ball against Navy last week...But there's a difference when you face a front seven that has some real size...The O-line wasn't blowing Purdue off the line the way you'd like to see...Better get to work on that, since the schedule gets tougher next week...

Here's the ND highlights...

That's it for this week...See ya for Monday moaning!

A Rare View from Cleveland

Wednesday night news broke that Art Modell was gravely ill...I had posted on Facebook when the news broke, "Art Modell is "gravely ill" is the lead local news story...How many Clevelanders first response was a slight grin?"

By morning he was dead...Through the night, and all day Thursday, there were plenty of people admitting to being happy Modell had died...Even those who don't wish death on people, were still glad he had died...Clevelanders take what happened to their Browns very personally...And that's fine...I know I was pissed when Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore...But as time has gone on, and I looked at the whole picture, I don't have that same hate for Art Modell, that most Clevelanders do...Yep, you're about to witness a guy from Cleveland, defend Art Modell's legacy...

Back in the day, The Cleveland Indians sucked...But their owner knew how Cleveland loves it's sports teams...They also knew that city leaders were tired of the "Mistake by the Lake" jokes...So for a couple years, Dick Jacobs kept threatening to move the Indians...The City decided to give Jacobs what he wanted...His own stadium...Completely funded by the public...All Jacobs paid for was the sign that put his name on the place...

The City officials also thought this would be even better if they could get the Cavs to move back to downtown Cleveland, instead of playing in the sticks of Richfield...So they build Gordon Gund's Cavaliers a new arena right next to Jacobs field...Again, Gund, that blind bastard, only paid to put his name on the place...The city was all a buzz about what was dubbed, "The Gateway District"...This shit was going to bring us back!

Modell, who's Browns always sold out the 70,000 plus Municipal Stadium, waited patiently...He had just lost his tenant, the Indians...The Stadium was old, and surely the City would take care of their number one draw...But they didn't...Eventually Modell had to go to the mayor...He never went to the media like Jacobs, and made repeated threats to move...The city officials made it clear that there was no way they could afford to give him a sweet deal, and new home, like they did for the Indians and Cavaliers...Modell, was losing money...No one in Cleveland fought for him or the Browns...He was in debt, and got an offer from football starved Baltimore...We always hear about sports being a business...Well, Modell made the smart business move, and took HIS team to Baltimore...

In 1995 Modell told The Wall Street Journal, "The reason I'm taking so much heat now is every politician is covering his backside for failing to do anything at all. They took me for granted."

Yes they did...It wasn't until news broke that Modell was moving the team to Baltimore, that people finally took action...All the sudden the fans spoke up...Suddenly elected officials were trying to do something...Too little, too late...All this time fans have been pissed at Modell...They've had nothing but hate for him, when really they should have taken that out the mayor, councilmen, and the media, who cried to save the Indians, but didn't say anything about taking care of the Browns until they were already packing up...

And while Art is hated in Cleveland, he deserves the praise he is getting from around the country...He is one of the few key people, who made the NFL what it is today...He Pushed for the NFL/AFL merger, and he and Pete Rozelle were the visionaries that saw that TV was where Football had to go...Modell almost single-handedly strong armed his fellow owners into the first TV contract...Letting them know, that if they really wanted to make the money that they dreamed of, that TV was going to get them there...And then later, it was Modell, who strong armed the Networks into ponying up the BIG money, to put the NFL on their airwaves...You can also thank Art for Monday Night Football....

There are mountains of NFL history that couldn't have been written had it not been for Art Modell...The man belongs in the Hall of Fame...And Cleveland, he also deserves some respect for the countless acts of charity he contributed to during his life in here...

After much talk about the NFL having Modell Honored with a moment of silence before this Sunday's games, The Modell family has asked The Cleveland Browns to not pay him any Honor...The Browns were planning to keep it short, knowing the fan reaction would be bad...This takes any worry off the Browns...But it bothers me that pretty much everyone in the world knows that, a moment of silence to pay respect to one of the men that built the NFL into the monster it is, would be greeted in Browns Stadium with a chorus of boooo's...

This may be odd for a sports blogger to write...But it's just a football team people...There is really so much more to life, then to carry that kind of hate around for all these years.

Fuck Pittsburgh!

Chris Perez and His Mouth are at it Again

Just a few months after Indians closer bashed Clevelanders for not coming out and filling Progressive Field, he has fired off his mouth again...This time at the Indians owner, Larry Dolan, and the front office...

Yeah dummy...That's why Cleveland fans don't fill that stadium...Like we tried to tell you Perez, your bosses suck! Many of us have no intention of putting another dime in their pockets, until they show us that they actually want to put a winning product out on the field...

When asked what the difference is between the Indians and the Detroit Tigers, Perez responded by saying, “Different owners, it comes down to that. They (the Tigers) are spending money. He (Mike Ilitch) wants to win. Even when the economy was down (in Detroit), he spent money. He’s got a team to show for it. You get what you pay for in baseball. Sometimes you don’t, but most of the time you do.”

Perez didn't stop there...When the topic of Twins outfielder Josh Willingham was brought up, he had more to say...Willingham had been a free agent coming into this year, and was looking for a 3 year deal...The Tribe only offered two...Right now Willingham has 33 HR's and 98 RBI...

Perez's view....“Josh Willingham would look great in this lineup. They didn’t want to pony up for that last year. That’s the decision they make, and this is the bed we’re laying in.”

Perez continued to discuss the moves made instead of getting Willigham, and made sure to not put all the blame on Dolan...“You can’t miss. You have to be right. That’s why I say it’s not just ownership. They don’t make the trades. It’s the GM's. It goes hand in hand. The GM's can only spend the money the owners give them, but they pick who they spend it on or who they don’t. They pick. The owners don’t pick.”

Honest to God, this is the first time Perez has ever spoken, and I actually agree with him...Too bad it took him so long to realize what we already knew...I'm guessing he won't be seeing an offer sheet from the Indians...I doubt he would sign it anyway.

Monday Moaning

Well, the Fighting Irish had a good start to their season! Notre Dame opened up in Dublin, Ireland, against NAVY...This is a team that ND has learned not to take lightly...And they didn't...The Irish rolled to a 50-10 victory...In case you missed it, since it was an early kickoff here in the States, here are the highlights...

The only problem I had watching this game, was when a couple of Jehovah Witness assholes knocked on my door...Hey, I'm all for religious tolerance, except when you're an asshole who doesn't acknowledge the Flag, and you if you are disturbing me watching a Notre Dame game...I opened the door, I could smell it on them...This dope started opening his mouth, and I said, "What are you?" He replied timidly, "Jehovah Witness." My wife saw the steam coming off of me, and I let loose..."Get out here! Get the fuck off my porch!"

They left, but I wasn't quite satisfied, so I stepped outside with my cup of coffee as they were walking towards my neighbor's house and I yelled, "It's Saturday morning, there's a Notre Dame Football game on...Get the hell out of here!" Then gathered with another couple of these clowns and got in a car...I noticed a few people looking out there doors at this point...They slowed as they passed my house, at this point I was almost at the curb, just pissed that they knocked on my door...The one dope leans his head out and says, "We didn't mean to disturb you," I didn't let him finish and yelled, "Well you did! Get the fuck out of here!"

I walked inside pleased, feeling I did something good for all of mankind...My wife, looking at me saying, "Jesus, you're so mean to people sometimes. Watch your game." That's all I wanted...All I wanted...

I had gotten up Saturday morning around 8:30 AM...AT 1:30 AM Sunday, I was still up, and watching College Football...I didn't go to sleep until after 2:30AM...Of those 18 hours I spent about 12 watching college football...I love this time of year!

And the Notre Dame game wasn't the only highlight...Little Ohio University going to not-so Happy Valley, and beating Penn State 24-14 was awesome...I was thoroughly disgusted that ESPN made this their noon game, and hyped it all week, by swinging on Penn State's balls...15 minutes on SportsCenter Friday night...20 minutes before kickoff, loving on Penn State...Just months after numerous ESPN talking heads were out for blood on the PSU campus...Now they want to hold them, and snuggle them...Suck my ass! And the announcers talking about the PSU defense being the anchor of the team...

Really? Well the anchor gave up over 100 yards rushing, and 72 receiving to 5-9 RB Beau Blankenship...And gave up 324 yards passing to QB Tyler Tettleton...As if PSU didn't have enough to be embarrassed about, then they got pushed around the field for the second half, by a MAC school!

I found it depressing that the local media had a huge boner because Ohio State beat up on Miami of Ohio, like they should have, but just passed by Ohio U. working PSU...Fucking twats around here!

It was also fun seeing Michigan look like children, just getting rolled over by Alabama...You know, every time Big Ten people start getting cocky, and say they're just as good as the SEC, something like this happens, and the gap between SEC and Big Ten talent/skill/coaching is put on display for everyone to see...Right now the Big Ten is hoping Nebraska still has some Big-12 left in them, while Urban Meyer tries to make Ohio State a SEC North team...

Now that I have covered that stuff, I thought I'd let everyone know, the kids are doing great at their new school...Little Beeze is adjusting to all the rules, and he's in for a rude awakening this week when he starts getting homework...He's going to be tested, and pushed a lot more here...His big sister is settling right in, having been craving a little more out of her last school...She has a couple of good friends already, and they have talked her into joining the school band...That's not a shock, since she's always loved going to the High School Football games, to see the band...

And thank God for the band...Because our local team sucks balls Friday night...I stopped looking at the scoreboard in the 3rd quarter when we were down 42-7...But halftime was great, as the Marching Band was awesome...They were the first and only thing to bring our fans to their feet...The crowd roared and gave them a standing ovation.

This past week I took vacation days, to help with getting into the swing of the school year...After the older two were at school, it was just me and Molly...

Yeah, plenty of park time...Her and her swings...

It was good week...And my wife had to admit, that I'm a better Mom...Yeah, I tried to TELL you people!

She also starts a new job, at the company she left less then a year ago...They reached out to her, and made her an offer she couldn't refuse...She's happy about it...The kids aren't, because it means she'll be working a little later...I'm not looking forward to the two weeks of training she has to do out of town...I'm good, but I don't want to be a single parent...the company is flying her home on the weekend in between, so it won't be too bad...

That's it for now...Gotta get that grill ready for some Labor Day fun...

Have a week...
