The Beeze's College Football Pick'em (week 10)
Last week I didn't post a Pick'em...There were only 2-3 games I liked, and didn't even like them that much...One of the things I learned about gambling from my father was, don't bet just to bet...If you aren't feeling it...Don't do it...So I didn't...But this week, I'm feeling it...So here we go...
- Texas Tech at West Virginia...
This series is tied at two games each, so we don't have much history to work with...What we do have is this is a Big 12 game...Almost all of the Big 12 lacks defense...And we know Tech loves to chuck it, and try to score points...West Virginia is a 8 point favorite...Take the Red Raiders plus the 8 points...
- Duke at North Carolina...
UNC has won 22 of the last 25...But I am still surprised to see Duke as a 7.5 point underdog...Coming off getting royally screwed by the refs in that Miami game, I like Duke...Think about this...If Duke wins out, and then wins the conference championship, the playoff committee kind of has to ignore that Miami loss, since the ACC admitted Duke should have won...Duke is angry...Duke is on a mission...Take Duke plus the 7.5 points...
- Notre Dame at Pittsburgh...
Since 1988 the Irish lead this series 15-5...ND knows they need to win out, and will need help to get into the playoff conversation...And Pittsburgh, isn't that good...Take the Irish minus the 8.5 points...
- Florida State at Clemson...
Florida State has lost 5 of their last 6 at Clemson...This game is huge for both teams...But Clemson needs it...The only way the will get the respect they deserve from the playoff committee is if they are undefeated...The Tigers are a 10.5 point favorite...Normally, against a solid FSU team, I would go with the Seminoles getting that many points...But I'm looking for Clemson to make a statement...A bigger statement then what they made against Notre Dame...I'm taking the risk...I'm taking Clemson minus the 10.5....
- Arizona State at Washington State...
Washington State is a 3 point favorite...WSU being a favorite is odd...This is strictly giving the home team the bump...ASU is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings...I see the SUn Devils making that 11-1...Take ASU plus the 3 points...
- LSU at Alabama...
Alabama have won the last 4 in this series...But this Alabama team isn't as good as those teams...I think they are overrated...LSU running back Leonard Fournette is out to prove something, and is looking at this game to be the key to his Heisman run...I don't even have to think about this...I'm taking the Tigers plus the 6.5 points...
- Bonus pick...
-Navy at Memphis....
Navy is a 7.5 point underdog...With the way they play, I would like to take those points...But this is Memphis...How powered offense, and a team not getting the respect they deserve...Take Memphis minus the 7.5 points...
Good luck....Beat the bookie!

Monday Moaning
Yeah Oregon...I have you as my number one team...Sure Alabama is still rolling along...But it's easy to roll along when one of the last six teams you've played has a winning record...
1. Oregon
2. Florida State
3. Alabama
4. Ohio State
5. Miami
6. Baylor
7. Fresno State
8. Stanford
9. Oklahoma
10. Clemson
That's my top ten right now, based on schedule strength, wins, and what I have seen...I watch a damn good amount of college football...Too much my wife would say! Along with a number of the college football talk shows, so I can be aggravated by the talking heads...Pleas keep telling me how great Alabama is...1 of the last 6 teams they have played has a winning record...The media needs to stop giving them points for what they did the last two years..."This is this." It's all about this year...Only this year...
Baylor hits the meat of their schedule now, so we'll see if their high flying, high powered offense can keep it up...Oregon is # 1 because their schedule...People are not respecting how good the PAC is this year...And Oregon's offense showed this week, even after a bad start, and good D, they can take over a game...UCLA is good, and they thought they had the Ducks setup for an upset...Then Oregon rattled off 28 unanswered points....
Sorry Ohio State fans...Yeah, you rolled Penn State...It was only Penn State...Every week two things happen in the Big Ten...Ohio State looks to be getting better...And everyone else looks weaker...The Buckeyes are being dragged down by their conference...And based on what I've seen, of my top three teams, in my opinion, Alabama is the only one Ohio State can take down...Florida State's thrashing of Clemson last week proved a lot of doubters, including me, that they are for real...
-Now onto The World Series...I'm writing the before Game four is played...I want to be able to watch the game, and go to bed...I had a long weekend as we went to visit family out of town...I'll get to that in a bit...I just want to address this idiot obstruction call which lead to the end of game 3...Maybe, the rule was being called, based on how it is written, but if you look at the still pictures of it, it seems like horse shit...
Seriously, who's obstructing who? And how is a guy laying on the ground from diving for a ball, suppose to magically get out of the way for a guy who isn't even in the base path?
And why is the guy who called the Obstruction looking at where the ball went instead of looking at the supposed obstruction that is just now taking place? Jim Joyce sucks balls...I'm not trying to sound like sour grapes, Johnny Boston defender, I'm just calling it like I see it...And I've seen Joyce fuck up a lot of calls, that impacted a number of games over the last few years....Dude sucks!
-So we went out of town...Went to Erie PA...Saw my wife's sister and her family from Boston...Love spending time with my brother-in-law, and their kids...Knocked down plenty beers...Took the kids to Splash Lagoon, an indoor water park...They had a blast, but holy fuck it was expensive...Finnegan stopped at everyone, laid down on his back, and let them rub his belly...Saw the in laws...Saw an old dude who clearly didn't give a fuck about how he parks...
It was a good time, but I hate staying in hotels...All the packing, loading, unloading, unpacking, repacking, reloading, unloading, haven't unpacked yet...And I never sleep well in hotels...Molly slept well, but she still woke up Grumpy Saturday morning...
Shit, that face cracks me up...
-Lastly, Sunday legendary singer, songwriter, poet, rock & roll, icon, and artist, Lou Reed died at age 71...Reed's music was something people either love or hate...His voice was never great, but greatly unique...I was shocked to learn he was 71...Because Lou Reed never seemed old...He was always cool, before everyone else knew what cool was...
Rest in Peace...
That's it for now...
Hope you have a "Perfect Day"

The Beeze College Football Wrap Up
The Notre Dame offense didn't make things easy on the defense, as Everrett Golson threw 2 interceptions in his own end of the field, early in the game...But the Irish defense kept Michigan off the board until the 4th quarter, giving up just two field goals...Golson was yanked, for the second time this year for Tommy Rees...While Rees kept the mistakes to a minimum, the offense was pretty conservative, relying on the defense's strong play, and holding on for a 13-6 victory...
I hated seeing Golson looking so dejected on the sidelines...The kid has great talent, and you don't want him to lose his confidence...Coach Kelly said after the game, that Everrett Golson is still their guy, and from time to time, they will look for Rees to get them through a tough spot...I'm not going to bitch right now...They're winning...And whatever gets you the win is okay with me...
And you can't say enough about Manti Te'o...Two weeks in a row, after dealing with the deaths of his grandmother and his girlfriend, there he is, leading his team...Playing great football...He hasn't made an INT during his time at Notre Dame...He now has 3 in the last 2 games...Watch this kid play people...Come April, he'll be a first round pick!
Who wants highlights? I do!
Now if you like College Football like I do...Then Saturday night is your kind of night...Beside Notre Dam and Michigan in prime-time...You also had Florida State playing Clemson, and Kansas State visiting Oklahoma both in Prim-time...Oh, and Auburn facing LSU...Good stuff...
Lets start at Auburn...I'm so sick of people talking about how great #2 LSU is...So far they have played nobodies, and have blown them out...And stupid LSU fan thinks they're the shit...Well, this is how great they are...The beat Auburn 12-10...That's right, not 49-10...12-10...1-3 Auburn, had LSU sweating bullets...And that 1 win was an OT win against ULM...Let me just say this LSU fans...Your team better knuckle up for next weeks game against Towson...
Now, I have to talk about #15 Kansas State going to face #6 Oklahoma...This game was a hard-hitting battle...Now when I did my pre-season predictions, I said Oklahoma would win the Big-12, but I warned people about Kansas State, who gets no respect, and I had K-State QB Collin Klein as a Heisman sleeper...Well, the Wildcats didn't disappoint...They went into a hostile environment...Played tough defense, and gritty offense and managed to upset the Sooners 24-19...The biggest thing that kept the Sooners from winning was 3 turnovers...Almost 4, but one was overturned by review...Also 4-10 on third downs makes life hard too...
Klein's numbers weren't outstanding, only passing for 149 yards, and rushing for 79 and a TD...But he did what his team needed, as K-State beat Oklahoma in time of possession by almost ten minutes, and didn't turn the ball over...
Then there was #10 Clemson at #4 Florida State, in a huge ACC match up...I had picked Clemson to win the ACC, and I was liking what I was seeing early in this game...Their offense was looking good, finishing with 426 total yards, and 37 points, seems like a good day at the office...But the Seminoles turned it on in the late in the third quarter, racking up a total of 667 yards and putting 49 points on the board...It became clear as the game went on, that FSU had too much depth, size and strength, took the lead, and wore Clemson out...
Saturday afternoon, there was another good game...Two PAC-12 teams that have been surprising people...Oregon State at #19 UCLA...This game was about offense, and two QB's who can sling it...UCLA's Brett Hundley who passed for 372 of their 444 total yards...And Oregon State's Sean Mannion threw for 379 of their 501 total yards...Surprisingly, it wasn't a 49-45 game...Oregon State pulled out the victory and their second upset of the year, winning 27-20...
There was another PAC-12 game that many of us were looking forward to, as #22 Arizona visited #3 Oregon...Everyone knows about Oregon's awful, constantly changing uniforms, and their high-powered offense...But after Arizona beat up on Oklahoma State, people started taking them seriously...Well, looks like they need to go back to the drawing board, as Oregon has spent the evening showing people that they are the class of the PAC-12, destroying Arizona 49-0...
In the SEC I was looking forward to the Missouri / #7 South Carolina game...While Missouri is 2-2 (0-2 in the SEC) they've played hard, and stayed in games...And let's be honest, you never really know what's going to happen with Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks...Well, let's put it this way...Missouri is having a rough first season in the SEC, as South Carolina beat them 31-10, and it didn't even seem that close...
Now I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but it's really getting under my skin...So far this season, ESPN/ABC has televised every one of Penn State's games...Has it become ESPN's personal crusade to keep Penn State slightly relevant while they are under NCAA sanctions?
Is it just that they want to keep a spotlight on the child rape that took place there? I'm not getting that...They sure love showing the blue ribbons...Hey dummies, blue ribbons don't fix the lives that have been ruined by what happened there, and what was covered up there...And ESPN likes showing the dumb-ass fans/students/alumni that still have their undying loyalty to Joe Paterno, and feel he was wronged, and that they are the victims...I truly hate that place...But I really hate ESPN/ABC for continuously putting them on the air...Oh, PSU won 24-13 over Temple, if anyone cared...Burn in hell!
That's it for this week...Feel free to add your College Football highlights...See ya Monday!
The Beeze.
