Best College Football Uniforms (2021)

Last week ESPN put out their list of "best college football uniforms" and it wasn't that surprising. They are the "world wide leader"...Leader of lazy sports coverage. You could see their top 5 coming a mile away and it didn't really matter the order.

1. Notre Dame

2. Michigan

3. Penn State

4. USC

5. Oregon

Now, as some of you may know, I'm a huge Notre Dame fan and don't have an argument with that. But other than Oregon this list is fresh out of the 1980's. It's the old guard that so many in the media want to be relevant again. USC is crap and hasn't been much since Pete Carroll left them in a NCAA sanctions mess.

Penn State is still loved by ESPN for all that bonus content they gave them from Sandusky being a pedophile and good ole Joe Paterno and the PSU administration trying to hide as much as they could.

Then there's Michigan. That program is just garbage. Once an always competitive, powerhouse program, now many teams look at that game on their schedule and don't sweat it.

And of course, Notre Dame. They keep themselves relevant by having a huge fanbase, and remaining not 100% locked into a conference. They can run with the teams in the ACC, Big Ten, PAC 12 and the dying Big 12, but they are outmatched if they run into a damn SEC team.

ESPN's list felt like holding onto the good ole days, and narrow sighted...Like they don't actually pay attention to the vast majority of college football. So screw them! Here's my list.

1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish:

Ok, so maybe I sound like an asshole after all that and then going with ND, but I told you I was a huge Irish fan and their classic uniforms are still the shit!

And when they once a season break out a GREEN jersey, that shit is awesome!

I will always love the all gold, nothing on it helmet, but I have to say, this Shamrock version below was awesome to see and I'd love to see them use regularly.

2. Kansas State Wildcats:

The Wildcats have become one of my favorite programs to watch. They have a great fanbase, student-body and traditions installed in their program. They're gritty team that doesn't have the recruiting power of the the Big 12's "elite" programs, Oklahoma and Texas.

Purple, Silver and White, with a great logo. The Silver has that Dallas Cowboys thing where the Purple bleeds into it and makes it an off-silver.

KSU has also mixed in White helmets and pants that that make it a tight and clean look.

3. Ohio University Bobcats:

No, not Ohio State! There's no way I'm doing this list and not getting some MACtion in here!

The Bobcats rock a traditional style uniform  with only two colors, Green and White, with a crisp White helmet with simply OHIO written on it's sides and two green stripes with white in between.

The Bobcats occasionally mix in a green helmet in the same style.

Like many other Programs they have produced a couple different versions of a "Blackout" uniform. Black jersey, pants and helmet. The helmet holds onto the the same style but the green pops from the black as it is a metallic green.

ESPN's list went with old school big name programs. Clearly I have no problem an old school look/style, but mine look good. Fuck Penn State's boring ass shit and USC's ugly yellow (not gold) and whatever color red that is? What is it called, O.J. Simpson Bloodstain?

4. Georgia Bulldogs:

Look at that. Red, White, Black, light gray pants on the Black Jersey uniform. Strong, powerful, bold colors and the iconic oval "G" helmet logo. What's the lingo these days. Dope? Fire? Tight? This shit is tight! or whatever the fuck the kids are saying these days.

Yeah, that's a spiked dog collar design on the Black jersey!

5. Washington Huskies:

The Huskies at home rock Purple Jerseys with white numbers trimmed in Gold. The sleeves have 2 lighter shade of purple stripes. Gold pants. Gold Helmet with a Purple "W" on both sides, Purple facemask, and a Purple-White-Purple tri-stripe down the middle of the helmet.

On the road the helmet is the same, the jersey is White with Purple numbers, the standard purple stripe flanked by two lighter shade purple stripes on the sleeves. I have also seen all white uniforms with the Helmets colors reversed.

The Huskies also have a "Blackout" uniform, embracing the Huskies name.

Honorable Mention:

Washington State Cougars:

The Cougars have a great logo. Crappy team most of the time, but a loyal fanbase that loves to represent that great logo. The only problem with the uniforms, is they have so many options, they can screw themselves up mixing and matching.

Maybe they should spend more time on the football and less time on what to wear!

Another team that gets an Honorable mention, was actually on ESPN's list.

The Oregon Ducks:

The Ducks are famous for the Nike uniforms that are different every week. They say that is being scaled back and these are what we should expect this year, but it's Oregon. At some point we will see black, we will see a chromed out helmet, some gray somewhere, a darker shade of green. They can't stop themselves. I hope I'm right, because this crop or Oregon uniforms is pretty boring for them.

Feel free to let me know what your favorites are.

Fuck Michigan, Penn State and USC!

The Seattle Kraken

Today, the NHL's Seattle hockey franchise finally announced their team name, logo and colors...The Seattle Kraken...Pretty much the worst kept secret in Seattle sports history...It's been the fan favorite and the most talked about name idea...Everyone saw it going this way...You can't offend anyone with a mythical creature...RIGHT?

It's Seattle...City by the Sea...Bad-ass sea creature makes sense...You couldn't be in the same conference as the Sharks and be the fucking sea lions...

Let's look at the Kraken...

The logo is rock solid...Old time "S" with a tentacle in it with a red eye...The secondary logo is the Seattle Space Needle morphed into an Anchor...

This is what has been show on their website as the Home sweater....Haven't seen away yet...The team shop site crashed minutes after the release...

The colors are described as Deep Sea Blue, Ice Blue, Boundless Blue, Shadow Blue, and Red Alert. Seems like a lot  of blues there...That's because the shades change for the secondary logo and the wordmark depending on if it is on the Deep Blue Sea background or the Ice Blue background...

I like it...But we all know they are going to beat the shit out of that "Release the Kraken" line and annoy the shit out of us eventually.

Seattle Hockey, Get Your Shit Together

There is a picture of an often forgotten hockey team...The Seattle Metropolitans...and yes, in 1917 they won the Stanley Cup...And now hockey fans in the Pacific Northwest are excited about their new expansion NHL franchise, the Seattle ___________!  Yes it's been two years since the announcement and the Seattle Hockey club still doesn't have a name...There have been many ideas...There was a fan vote which was blown off...There has been much legal back and forth over copyrights for multiple names and logos...And every time the hockey world thinks it's getting an announcement on the team name and logo...They announce that they are delaying...

Many thought last November was going to be it...Announce and start selling merch for the holidays, and get the excitement building...But no such luck...I'm a huge hockey fan...I'm a huge fan of Seattle...I want to see this franchise do well...And I want to see some great looking gear...

Luckily, design programs and video games have let people work up ideas...and some obviously have been worked up by firms....Many of these ideas have come across the desks of the people in charge of the the Seattle franchise...Thanks to the internet, many have floated out to us...So I'm going to show some of the best ones that are out there with the Team names that have been at the top of the list...

You're going to see a lot of Green as Seattle is know as the "Emerald City"

The Kraken: Kraken has been in the lead with a lot of people...The idea of a mythical creature seems appealing to many...

Green, Black, funky Red, and a Yellow-green...I don't like this look, with the exception of the alternate jersey throwing it back to the old Metropolitans days...

This one has the staple Seattle blue with green with a Kraken dick (looking like a "S") wrapped around the Seattle Space Needle...Simple, clean and colors resembling the Seahawks, Mariners and Sounders...

This one I like more...Green with gold...It's all in on the Kraken theme with the trident and the tentacle looking "S" and Seattle written in the "S" like the old school Metropolitans...Honoring the past but going into the future...

This is similar with Kraken written in the "S"...Going all in on blue...But this Blue and Green combo looks a lot like the Vancouver Canucks color scheme and why look like the team that is going to be your biggest geographical rival...

Totems: Is a name that has been used for in a number of lower level leagues...It has been one of the names and logos where there has been copyright arguments...There is also the question of if Native American tribes in the region will be okay with this...

This has been the standard idea for Totems Not a bad look, but the name falls flat with me.

Sea Lions: The Canucks logo is an Orca...Orcas eat Sea Lions...Sharks eat Sea Lions...Sharks are in San Jose...That alone hurts this name...

I actually really like the logos and uniform design here...The top left logo, that Sea Lion looks fierce...

Evergreens: We get it, you got a lot of trees up there...You don't name a hockey team after a tree...

Very basic, simple, boring, dumb name...

Sawbucks: Somehow, some-way, people merged wood working and wildlife together and came up with a cool logo to go with a cool sounding name....

A sawbuck holds wood while cutting...A Sawbuck is also a Pokemon creature that looks like a member of the deer family...

Anyways....I think this logo looks great...The name sounds tough and cool...The uniform design is solid...I'm kinda rooting for this...

Metropolitans: Yes, it's always been on the list and many would like to see the history brought back...Personally I think it's a shitty name...But I understand and appreciate respecting the history....

This one went all in with the green...Two shades of green and white...Good striping...An alternate logo...The primary logo focusing on the Space Needle.

Sockeye: The longer this has dragged on, the more attention this name gets...I HATE it...I just can't get behind the name...

The big thing with the Sockeye ideas is they seem to all move away from the green idea and the "Seattle Blue".....This top one is boring...

I give this one a lot of credit...Unique design and color scheme...Going bold with both...I hate the name, but I like the effort on this design...But I wouldn't buy this jersey...

Emeralds: Seattle as I mentioned earlier is known as "The Emerald City"...But that's no reason to name your team after a gemstone...Emeralds is as bad as Evergreens....

I appreciate this design reaching back and using the old Seattle Super Sonics basketball team colors...It's a quality design just a shit name...

What are your thoughts...What should Seattle name their hockey team? What colors? When the hell are they going to figure it out already?

NHL Makes Deal with Adidas

News broke a couple days ago that Adidas has won a long-term contract to make uniforms for all 30 NHL teams, starting the 2017-2018 season...Adidas will be taking over for Reebok, a brand owned by Adidas...

The current deal with Reebok annually brings in the NHL $35 million...The new rights deal with Adidas will bring in double that...Adidas beat out Under Armour and Bauer Hockey for the deal...

This deal has many Hockey traditionalists worried about what type of changes Adidas will make to NHL jerseys...Myself, I would hate to see them fuck up the traditional look that so many of the teams have...Many fear that Adidas will add their signature three stripe style to the jerseys...I hope they will respect tradiotn, like they did with Notre Dame...Adidas was with Notre Dame Athletics for many years, and stuck with the traditional look...They added the signature three-stripe to practice jerseys, but game day gear was basically left alone...

Adidas sales dropped 7% last year, and they are looking to make a big turnaround...Future star Connor McDavid has already done a commercial promoting the brand...And talks have begun with Sidney Crosby, who's endorsement deal with Reebok will expire at the end of this month...

But there is another fear about Adidas and the NHL getting into bed together...Will this move bring what many have feared for years, but have seen coming...Advertising on the jerseys...We have seen it in junior hockey...We have seen it in European hockey leagues...The AHL...And many NHL teams have had an advertiser on their practice jerseys...But game jerseys...It just doesn't seem right...

Listen it seems natural in auto racing...As far back as I remember, and before me, ads were on race cars...But not on Hockey Jerseys...I'm sure Holy Hell would be raised if MLB tried it...

But the NHL wants to grow...And they want to line their pockets more...NHL officials project that ads on jerseys could bring in $4 million per team each year...

What's the saying?  Money talks and Tradition walks...Something like that!

Hey, I like India Reynolds in Adidas...

I'm not sure if I'll like hockey in it...

Then again, We like India Reynolds in or out of Adidas!

These Football Helmets are Getting Out of Hand

Yeah, this year's Maryland gear is nuts...But that's not all...A couple weeks ago Maryland played Notre Dame in what they called "The Shamrock Series"...The Irish put on their green jerseys, but also added a tricked out helmet...

Now I kinda like the shamrock but I'm not sure about the pattern...Then during the game I heard that the pattern was done by hand pressing velvet to get the look...Seems like a lot of work...

Then today I saw the price tag...Each of those Notre Dame helmets cost $1,200...WTF!?! Now I don't know if the University of Notre Dame had to put up the $1,200 per helmet cost, or if Adidas footed the bill...Either way it seems crazy to me...

Here's a look at the work that went into the helmets...

I could think of better ways to spend that money!

Later, The Beeze.
