NHL Wants 3 on 3 Overtime...
The NHL and NHLPA have reached an agreement to switch the overtime format in the 2015-2016 season to a five minute period of 3-on-3 Hockey...
They're fucking killing me!
The idea is to cut down the number of shootouts and have more straight up wins...Yes, they will still go to a shootout if tied after the 5 minute period...(Personally I don't hate the shootout as much as many others do)...I already hated the 4-on-4 overtime...It changes how teams play...And going to 3-on-3 will do that also...Plus going 3-on-3 could give some teams a distinct advantage...Which in my opinion is bullshit...
Example: Lets say a hard-nosed, defensive-minded, grind-it-out style team forces a skilled-passing, offensive-minded, finesse team to overtime...Now that grinder team has lost any edge they had...You've taken two of their players off the ice...Do they (as a defensive team) put two defensemen and one forward out there? Their opponent is surely going with two forwards and one defensemen...Do they somehow change their style from a chip, chase, and check game, and put their fastest players out there and try to play a wide-open-free-wheeling style, which will hang their goalie out to dry?
I really get annoyed with how the NHL is constantly trying to "Increase Offense"...Defense is great...Do you know why defense is great...Because it's hard...All the rules work against the defensive side of the game, and yet there are players that make their career out of being elite defensive players...And that doesn't even include the goalies and the shit they have to deal with...Everyone wants more scoring, and then they shit all over any goalie who's Goals Against Average goes over 3.00...Bastards!
Another possible rule change that has been accepted, is giving coaches the ability to challenge goals on the basis of goalie interference calls and off-sides calls...
All rule changes are waiting to be approved by the NHLPA's Executive Board and the NHL Board of Governors...
I hope someone wakes up and screams NO!
