Monday Moaning : Cancelling Clapton?

No, that's not Eric Clapton. It's a much more attractive guitarist, Aurore Ounjian, who I first heard with a band out of Boston called Mean Creek. They are no more, but now she's with Beach Slang, who's front-man is a Philly native. Check both groups out, their shit isn't old and tired like Clapton's.

Yes, I just took a shot at a guitar/rock & roll legend. I'm not the only one. Following Thanksgiving a story started getting some steam, about Eric Clapton recording an "Anti-Lockdown" song with Van Morrison. Now the proceeds of the collaboration are said to be going to musicians who have been hit hard by the COVID-19 Pandemeic. I have "are said to be" bold because honestly I have a hard time trusting anyone, especially people like Van Morrison who have been very vocal in their opposition to lockdowns, anti-masks and/or loudly denying the seriousness of COVID.

It also bums me out because I have always liked Van Morrison's music. I've always liked Clapton's music...Well, the old stuff. He hasn't produced shit worth listening to since the 1990's. I never bought into the "Clapton is God" bullshit. Especially as I got older and listened to and searched out more music. He's overrated. I'll give you some names of some of Eric Clapton's contemporaries, all who are better and/or more versatile guitar players.

Jimi Hendrix
Buddy Guy
David Gilmour
Peter Green
Jeff Beck
Kenny Burrell
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Mark Knopfler
Robert Cray
Duane Allman
Rory Gallagher
Robin Trower
Mick Ronson
Carlos Santana
Neal Schon
Eric Gales
Jeff Buckley
(Who released one album before his tragic death. His follow up was released after his death as well as some live tracks and other studio work that was dug up.)

At first I wasn't going to put the shredders in here, but considering the span of Clapton's career, fuck it, I'll throw a few on.

Eddie Van Halen
Zakk Wylde  (checkout the album "Book of Shadows")
Derek Trucks
Randy Rhoads
Jerry Cantrell
Phil Collen
Brian May

Ok, that's enough for now.

So Clapton is overrated and hasn't done squat in awhile. He's put out a lot of Blues stuff later in his career but I'm not impressed, considering I can listen to an old Black man's original recording of it from ages ago. this is what leads us into the cancelling question.

When people found out Eric Clapton was onboard with Van Morrison's COVID ignorance, they started digging back into the history of Clapton. They found the real dirt and mud. The junkie, alcoholic, racist past. While on stage, August 5, 1976, high and drunk Clapton said this:

“Do we have any foreigners in the audience tonight? If so, please put up your hands … So where are you? Well wherever you all are, I think you should all just leave. Not just leave the hall, leave our country … I don’t want you here, in the room or in my country. Listen to me, man! I think we should send them all back. Stop Britain from becoming a black colony. Get the foreigners out. Get the wogs out. Get the coons out. Keep Britain white … The black wogs and coons and Arabs and f*cking Jamaicans don’t belong here, we don’t want them here. This is England, this is a white country, we don’t want any black wogs and coons living here. We need to make clear to them they are not welcome. England is for white people, man … This is Great Britain, a white country, what is happening to us, for f*ck’s sake? … Throw the wogs out! Keep Britain white!”

Clapton in the days after the concert did not apologize, but when asked about it in interviews he doubled down on his racist rants. He did not apologize for these rants for years and the first, major public apology wasn't until his 2017 Documentary "Life in 12 Bars," Where his drug and alcohol addiction got the blame for his being a fucking cunt.

“I was so ashamed of who I was, a kind of semi-racist, which didn’t make sense. Half of my friends were black, I dated a black woman, and I championed black music.”

Yes, he "championed black music." If by "championed" you mean, profited greatly on music Black men and Women created and didn't profit from. In that list of Guitarist above, I didn't include Jimmy Paige. Why? Because fuck him too! Zeppelin recorded 20 songs and claimed them as theirs and did not credit the artist who originally wrote the song, until they were sued over a number of them. 4 of the artist Zeppelin stole from were white, the rest were black. So when people want to pat these guys and Clapton on the back for championing Black music, I want to puke in the soup. They both just tried to make as much money off of black music as possible, with giving the least amount of credit possible.

Now, I was shocked back in 2017 when I saw the documentary and heard about Clapton being a racist cunt. Why was I shocked? He was making a living off of playing black music. His band was often made up of many black musicians. Maybe he was blinded by the drugs. Personally I have always thought it's bullshit when people try to blame their stupidity on drugs and/or alcohol. If anything, the substances loosen you up to let your true colors, thoughts, feelings fly.

We often say people can change, people can grow, but honestly I think that's just something we say. Something to give us hope. I think the vast majority of people don't change. They may mask things, hide parts of themselves, but inside, they're the same idiot they ever were.

Should Clapton be cancelled for what he said in 1976? Maybe, but he should have had his ass kicked.

Should Clapton and Van Morrison be cancelled for being Anti-lockdown, COVID's not that big of deal, dickheads? Maybe, but I'm more of a 'I hope they both get COVID and suffer' kind of guy.

Should Clapton be cancelled for being an overrated hack? Definitely!

Monday Moaning

Well, I guess that's one way to start the weeks off....

I'll be honest, I've sat here for an hour wondering what to write...I took a break, popped on some spank-vision and rubbed one out...then I thought about what to write some more...I didn't see any sports all weekend, I worked...I haven't seen any of the exciting Hockey going on at the World Junior Championship...There are things I want to write about, but I can't...I want them off my chest, but they are on the no write list in my house...One topic is on my personal "don't write, because she'll never fuck you again" list...So here I sit...

....

....

Okay, so full disclosure here...I wrote a few paragraphs about a topic in the news right now...But it was awfully harsh...It was my honest thoughts, but it was brutal, and today is not the right time for that post...So I sat here blankly again...

Where am I going to go? I started thinking about recapping 2014...Maybe a best of...Personally 2014 sucked in my book...But I started looking at lists of the best songs, and movies and all that goofy shit...Best blah, blah, blah of 2014....Holy shit...First, the music on these lists was crap...I happy to realize I missed out so much garbage...I looked at Movies...Wow! The Mrs. and I need to get out more...BUT WE'E FUCKING BROKE!  There were a lot of movies I remember saying, "I ant to see that!"  So, We're going to have to do some serious catching up On Netflix...Sad, I can't even scrape out a bullshit list, because the year flew past me...

The Music lists were garbage...The best stuff released in 2014 that made it on my iphone, were Billy the Kid's "Horseshoes & Hand Grenades"...

The Gaslight Anthem's "Get Hurt"....Mean Creek's "Local Losers"...Foo Fighters "Sonic Highways"...And Ryan Adams self-titled album is phenomenal....Letterman's reaction says it all...

I started this process at 11:15 PM...It's now 2:15 AM....I apologize...I love writing...I love getting shit out of head, and off my chest...But all that's in there is crap I can't write about at this time, as much as I'd like to...I'm really trying to get things on track...

Best I can do sports-wise...Oregon will beat Ohio State...I don't care what the line is...I'm just calling it straight up...

And here's my bold "Super Bowl" prediction, from a guy who has watched about a total of 37 minutes of NFL football this season...New England and Seattle...

Sorry for this train-wreck...

The Beeze.

Monday Moaning

Here at You Gab Sports we have guys from all over the country talking about sports and sometimes other stuff too...But to be honest, we are a Boston heavy crew...I know there are people already sick of all the Boston coverage, but shit impacts people differently...So I suspect you'll see a bit more Boston talk here...Sully while trapped in Georgia, is from Boston...Mo, Harry, Lanz, are from Boston...Radatz, and Hal too...Frag is in Vermont, he's a New Englander, so he's close to Boston...And while I'm from Cleveland, my favorite city to go to is Boston, thanks to my wife, who is originally from Beantown...Her sisters and their families are there, so when the events on Monday at the Marathon happened, the first thing I did was call her...Then we reached out to her family there to make sure they were all okay...They are thankfully...

Then came everyone's heightened awareness/fear...Check you local Metro sections from last week...Tuesday was full of bomb scares throughout the country...There were couple scares/evacuations in Cleveland...There were all over...Which proved to us all, that what happened in Boston can happen anywhere...In other parts of the world it happens all the time...Here we don't think about it much...While that may make us look or feel naive, it should also make us feel lucky, that we live somewhere that doesn't have bombs going off every week...Or day...

Then, as I was about to dig into this story about the new Browns owner, Jimmy Haslam's company Pilot Flying J being locked down with warrants from the FBI and IRS, a fertilizer plant in west, Texas exploded....The first video of the explosion was horrifying...The amount of damage was frightening...Multiple blocks just leveled...So far, 15 dead...Still many missing...While this didn't seem to be an attack, it was still a horrible loss of life and shattered families that left me wondering what is going on here?

Then came Thursday...The FBI released pictures of the suspects in the Boston bombings...5 hours later, between 10:00 and 10:30 PM, news broke that a MIT police officer was shot and killed...Then a carjacking...For some reason the news networks chalked it up as a coincidence and didn't think it was linked, and moved on...I thought it was linked, and so did many others on twitter...Links were posted for Boston police scanners...I along with many other were all in...listening to the scanner and tweeting about what we were hearing...There became no doubt in our minds that these were the guys when over the scanners, Watertown police started calling out "Shots fired!"  followed by "They're throwing grenades!"..."Loud explosions!"..."Shots fired!"...Then the worst call of an "Officer down."
...And then there was the call that the had one of the suspects was down...Shortly after that the scanners confirmed it was the bombers when the call went out that the suspect still loose was "The suspect with the white hat, from the pictures."

All the news was breaking on twitter...CNN didn't bother to cover things until well after 1:00 AM...The other networks didn't bother to jump in until almost 3:00 AM...Me, I was listening to the scanner and watching twitter until 4:00AM...Then I got myself a quick 3 hours of sleep before getting the kids to school and myself to work...All day, checking twitter for updates...Boston was locked down looking for this scumbag...

Friday evening came...He was still loose...The lock down was lifted...And thank God...Because a Watertown resident went outside, saw something odd with  his boat...Saw blood...saw a body...And let police know...Police swarmed the yard...More shots were fired...Police and FBI took their time...They were careful, in case this asshole had more explosives...They took him alive...And the news that he was in custody, again came first from twitter...All the TV news guys got off their smart phone, or from their ear piece, being told via twitter, asshole was captured...I had just taken my kids skating...I kept checking my phone...When I saw the BPD tweet, I texted my wife at home, letting her know...She asked how did I know, since she was watching on TV..."Just got the tweet"...A minute or two later she texted back that the TV just announced it...CNN starting to look more and more irrelevant!

While I know people want revenge and would like to see this asshole dead like his brother, I'm glad they took him alive, in the hopes that they git information out of him...The suspects may be caught/dead, but there are still questions...As for myself, the restraint shown by the police is something I wouldn't have had...I would have shot the hell out of his legs, so he could feel just like those he attacked...

And while these stories were unfolding, that little prick in North Korea must be pissed because know one is talking about him anymore...And our politicians voted down a a bill that at least 75-80% of citizens supported...Getting 80% of Americans to agree on anything is bitch, yet the DC douchebags managed to screw that up to...And yes, the conspiracy theorist are out there in full force...Yes, they are back, saying the government is behind the Boston bombings...These people need to calm down...I don't like the government either, but I just can't buy into that stuff...Yeah, they politicize the hell out of horrible stuff, but I can't buy them blowing up innocent kids....So Alex Jones and Glen Beck, shut the fuck up.

As for sports...I don't have much there this week...I watched The New York Rangers knock the New Jersey Devils out of the playoff hunt Sunday...The Rangers seem to be clicking on all cylinders...Good timing...Hopefully they'll ride it through the playoffs...

But the sports highlight came when I was taking a break from the news...Little Ms. Molls working on her baseball swing already!

That can always take your mind off the bad shit...

Saturday Boston celebrated their first responders, their wounded, their dead, their unity as a city and as Americans...And much of the country celebrated with them...The best way to celebrate, is keep on going...And I gotta get going...I'm a single dad for the first half of the week, as Mrs. Beeze is in Pittsburgh for some training for her new job...

It would be easy to play a standard "Boston" song here...But I'll give some of the young rockers coming out of Beantown...Mean Creek, with two members who grew up in Watertown...

Have a week...I'll try to find you "Left of the Dial."
