Monday Moaning

Awhile back during the "Winter Classic" weekend, there was a women's hockey game to promote the new NWHL...During the game, Boston Pride player Denna Laing stepped on an opponents stick and went headfirst into the boards....She suffered a serious spinal injury....This is horrible news that no one ever wants to see...And I like everyone wish her all the best and hope for a miraculous recovery....

That said, I have grown annoyed with her story...I know, that sounds cold as fuck...But hear my cold heart out...The NHL has been kissing her ass since the incident...They had a tribute to her at the "All-Star" game...at a Bruins a game...Then NBC had a tribute/big piece on her Sunday before the "Stadium Series" game between Minnesota and Chicago...New England Patriots star, Rob Gronkowski went out of his way to make a large public show of support for her and to push her family's charity...Yes, this all sounds good...Very nice...Except they are doing this all for mostly out of fear....They were given a warning...

It was made clear to the NHL, NWHL, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, and New England Patriots, that they were going to be sued by the Laing family...Why the Patriots? The game was played at Gillette Stadium...Why the Bruins and Canadiens? Because they were the teams playing in the next day's "Winter Classic"....Why the NHL? They made the ice/rink...And her own league, because they pushed to get the women's game involved...

Okay...You stepped on another players stick, and crashed into the boards....Somehow it's everyone else's fault...A bad thing happened...An awful, shitty fucking thing happened...But it wasn't the fault of anyone organizations with deep pockets...Now you smile and wave to cameras and glow as people cheer, as in the background your family sits with lawyers looking for a loophole to use to get a payday...

You were able to get paid to play a game that you loved...Not many people get to say that shit...I paid to play midnight hockey years ago, and when I got cross checked in the head, my helmet split in half, and I was concussed, I didn't sue the prick that did it...I didn't sue the rink for...I crawled to the bench, puked, had a beer, took a shower, went to Denny's until 4:00 AM...Went home and went to bed...The next week, first shift I was out there with the guy, I slashed him across the legs...(he was about to blow past me anyways)...When he angrily got up wanting to kill me, my friend leveled him and said "it's even!"...That was it...

I'm really sorry Denna Laing suffered a horrible injury, but I can't stand this idiotic society that wants to sued everyone for anything...You're playing hockey...You know bad shit can happen...You know accidents can happen...It's just shit that happens, that sometimes is out of our control...It's hockey, there are built in risks...That's why all the NWHL players had to sign a waiver before playing in the game...So to the Laing family...I wish you best in Denna's recover, but it's lawsuit happy, trying to make a quick buck, it's everyone else's fault people like you, that are one of the many problems in this country...If you go through with this shit, I hope a judge laughs you out of the courtroom.

Have a week.

Monday Moaning

What's been cooking Gabbers?

Yes, I've been missing in action...Life has been hectic...Working 3rd shift has been a major adjustment, and combining that with helping out with my in-laws, and being a on-hands dad/Mr. Mom, my time is at a premium...But has just been that...I have very little interest at all in sports these days...I watch Hockey as much as I can, but otherwise I have tuned out the day to day bullshit of the sports world...

I have no itch...No desire to write...Nothing pushing me to rant and rave like I have been since 2007....Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of shit that is pissing me off...Like all these dolts that are running for President, and the frightening fact that people are so frustrated/stupid, that Donald Trump has a shot...The party of Lincoln and Eisenhower is a fucking mess...Don't get me wrong...I'm no fan of the Dems' front-runner, Mrs. Clinton....I don't trust her a bit...

The worst part is, it's only February...We got a long road of all this bullshit ahead...

The other things on my mind/in my life are not really stuff I'm willing to write about...I've always kept my posts open and honest but sometimes you have to think about other people and even have a personal line as well...

So, for now I will be taking a leave of absence from YouGabSports...It is nothing personal with any of our membership or my fellow owners...I just have no passion for it, and often don't have the time...I have put my heart and soul into this site for years, and it a truly special place for us old Sporting News Misfits...I hope to be able to recharge and find the passion again...Hopefully sooner than later...

I will leave you with this bit of sports...Many were pissed when NHL enforcer John Scott won the fan voting for the NHL All-Star Game...Many felt it was a joke...And it seemed like it started out that way...But the players embraced it, knowing how important Scott has been to his teams over the years...Fans embraced it as well, if you saw any of the All-Star coverage, you now what I mean...Scott is part of a dying breed in the NHL, and the NHL bosses made it clear they want that breed to die...They along with his team, the Coyotes asked him to back out...When the swell to keep him in grew, he was traded to Montreal who immediately sent him to the minors...It seemed like a clear power move to keep him out of the game...He refused as more support for him poured in, and he stuck it to the NHL, as his team won the new silly format, and he had two goals...Scott then was voted the MVP, and the NHL brass acted as if they were so happy by the outcome they tried so hard squash...

This morning I read a great piece...It was written by John Scott...Explaining the path his hockey career took and why...As well as what the NHL did and said to him to try and fuck up his moment in the spotlight...It's a really good READ...

I think this summed up how players feel about Scott...

That's it for me folks...

Have a week!
